Since I missed Wordless Wednesday, I’m sharing some gardens for Throwback Thursday. We have always had a small vegetable garden in our backyard. I loved watching the squash, peppers. lettuce, eggplant and other vegetables grow big enough to pick. Even when Lia was tiny, she would run out to the garden and check the vegetables and get so excited when she found something that was ready to pick. Today is National Peace Rose Day, French horticulturist Francis Meilland was the developer of the Peace rose back in 1935 and 1939. When the German invasion started, Francis sent cuttings to his friends in Italy, Turkey, Germany, and the United States to protect the new rose he grew. Each country named the rose something different and the United States named it Peace as World War 2 came to a close and the national flower for the United States is the rose. So that’s how the Peace Rose get it’s name.
