WHO DO YOU ADMIRE AND WHY

WHO DO YOU ADMIRE AND WHY

As we enter day 3 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge, I decided to use the suggested daily topic to write my blog about today.  The topic is Who Do You Admire and Why.  They suggest to pick a friend, family member, colleague, or business partner and write a blog post about the quality you most admire in them.  This was a super easy topic as I am going to blog about a person that is all these people wrapped up in one.

A friend, family member, colleague and business partner is sometimes hard to find but when you find a single person that encompasses all these titles you know you have hit the jackpot.  I am talking about my husband who is not only the best husband but also the best father, grandfather, great-grandfather and business partner.

After I meet my husband on Christmas day 1965, we were then married on July 29, 1967 and we have worked together from day one.  We started our sewing business on our kitchen table and throughout the years we expanded our interior decorating business to a store front with an in store drapery workroom.  The name of out business, Mar-C’s  stands for Martha and Rich plus Children. (Both our children start with the letter “C”).  While Rich is a quiet person, he speaks with the sparkle in his eyes, the kindness in his heart and is the hardest worker I know.

*******
Our shop is set up with a showroom in the front and the workroom is in the back but it’s open to anyone who wants to view the work being done.  Rich will be in the work room cutting, stitching and completing a project while I’m out front with clients working on new orders.  But there is one thing that many don’t know about Rich.  He has had severe Rheumatoid Arthritis since 2006 and is in so much daily pain.  When a person has an illness that others can’t see, it’s hard for them to realize the pain that person is in.  After his monthly infusion, the infusion nurse tells him to go home and rest, but instead he heads back to work.  His body has constant muscle spasms in his hands and legs, not to mention the pain in his neck and spine from an “error” a surgeon made back in 2000. All these are painful enough to bring any other person to their knees but Rich keeps on going.   He is currently waiting on another total hip replacement but keeps saying “after we finish this next order”.  Well that never happens since we stay busy with our word of month advertising.

Another trait that Rich has, he grows the most gorgeous roses and when people ask how he does it, Rich explains that he talks to them.  When his roses are in bloom, which is from early spring to usually January or February, he picks one for me every morning and has it on the table or my laptop when I come downstairs.

To have a friend become a family member and wrapped up as a business partner, I feel like I’m the luckiest lady around.  Rich is always there for his family and friends and I admire and love him for all he does even though he lives in constant pain.

I have always loved how your posts show that wonderful friendship and love you share with Rich, and the roses he leaves for you everywhere 🙂

I was 16 when I met Rich, he had just returned from Vietnam, serving in the Army. We were friends for only a short time until love set in. He is the most wonderful man and yes I also love the roses he brings me daily. They are worth so much more than a bouquet bought from a store. Thanks for visiting LadyInRead.

  5. Wow! He sounds like a wonderful person!! Thank you for sharing about him, Martha. I have chronic fatigue syndrome so I know just what you mean about illnesses that don’t show on the outside. I admire him, too, for the way he keeps going in spite of it. <3

In my eyes, he is the best in the whole world Jeanine. We are together 24/7 and work well as a team. Rich has a multitude of chronic pain issues and I sometimes wonder how he keeps going but he puts everything else before his pain. I love him so much and looking forward to many more memories together. Thanks for visiting!

This is so sweet. He’s a keeper for sure and a brave one certainly. I am glad you have had so many wonderful years together and l hope you have many more too :-). Arthritis is such a debilitating disease. As a pharmacist, l saw it a lot :-(.

    • Martha says:

Thanks for the kind words Kemkem. The one thing that some people will say is “oh you only have arthritis?” So many don’t realized that RA also affects the internal organs. But his a fighter and keeps on going. Thanks for stopping by to visit my blog.
