Time to Take a Break

Well I was so excited about getting all my remodeling finished before the end of the October UBC. All I have left is my master bedroom and bath. No problem, I can get it done! Well easier said than done! I ended up have a procedure on my back yesterday so I’m forbidden (not just by my doctor but numerous friends!) to do any lifting or moving heavy objects for two days. So it’s time to take a break and even Snowball is keeping me down. Now it looks like the January Ultimate Blog Challenge will start with a completed, well organized master bedroom and bath! But I did get a good start on it.

I did manage to get the bedroom, closet and bathroom painted last week. The main walls are a very light slivery gray with the window wall slightly darker. The colors compliment the center room and it will be fun to pick out colors for the bedding and I may even spring for new towels! LOL

This is what my room looked like when the floors in the center room and two bedrooms were being installed, I had to store everything in one room!

Let the painting begin, quite a difference from the gold to silvery gray.

Each wall took me about 3 hours, I took my time and had the painting completed in two days. Back in the early 90’s terra cotta and gold were the colors and the gray makes the room so much brighter.

Saturday my friend Deb and her boyfriend came over to help install the new flooring. It took us all day and since Kevin has a great sense of humor and I told him he literally worked his leg off!

It took me two days to pull up the 27 year old carpet and padding, that was a job but well worth it after seeing the finished floor!

Slowly my room is getting back to normal but with having to take the next few days off, this is all I can do for now. It will give me time to decided on where to put what. My Marketplace night stand looks great against the paint, not sure where the old trunk will go. It’s been in the family for many generations and I don’t have the heart to get rid of it just yet. I think my granddaughter Alli would like it when she has room for it. Also the corner where my mom’s rocking chair is, I think I’ll make that my quiet corner where I read scriptures and do my journaling. My mom would rock so many grandchildren in that chair including Lia’s mom when she was a baby.

I also managed to get the master bath painted the week before the bedroom and another neighbor installed my new light fixture and my Marketplace mirror. The only thing left to do is install the flooring but it will get done. I just have to pace myself and sometimes that’s not easy for me to do.

One more thing, well actually two. LOL Many of you know Rich and I had an interior decorating business for over 50 years where we also had an in-store workroom. We designed, fabricated and installed bedding and window treatments, I can’t remember the last time I purchased draperies.

I had a bolt of silvery gray faux silk that I planned to make curtains for the center upstairs room. I don’t have my grommet machine anymore so I would have to make them rod pocket. BUT I happened to go to Home Goods a few days ago and they had the perfect curtains, white semi-sheer with an embroidery trailing vine of white and grayish/brown. The colors and size were perfect as was the price. There were four panels the exact width and length I needed for $24.00! How could I pass up that deal?

So I still have the bolt of silvery/gray faux silk that I will hang on to for another project. After going back into the bedroom, I noticed the box springs showed since I don’t have a floor length spread anymore and I don’t like that. So I grabbed the bolt, cut a width of fabric off and stuffed it between the mattress and box spring and it’s perfect for a bed skirt! I’ll add center pleats to the back and side and when I decide what bedding color to use, this will go with anything. I’m thinking it was a plan all along to have the curtains at Home Goods to be so perfect where I still had the faux silk left for my bed skirt.

After given my unexpected time to take a break, I hope I can finish everything by January, it shouldn’t be a problem right? I think the most time consuming project will be putting everything back in my closet, currently all my clothes are in the guest bedroom in piles.

I’ve got my work cut out for me but as Rich would always say, “Gotta git ‘er done.” We bought our house in 1999 and this is the largest overhaul I’ve done at one time. I’m excited to see the finished creation and then I think I should be finished…..at least for awhile.
