The Little Things That Matter

The Little Things That Matter

Have you ever had someone do something that seemed like no big deal? You know, like just make a phone call or send a text to see how you are feeling?  How about when you have an unexpected person come to visit with a coffee in hand early in the morning or pops into work with a Pepsi?  It’s the little things that matter and it’s called love.

My husband had a 3rd hip replacement on Monday and this was not like either of the other two.  His right hip was replaced in March 2018, an anterior approach and he was out mowing the lawn 4 days later.  The left hip had to be a posterior approach since the surgeon had to remove the original replacement from 2007.   Along with that, there was a large pseudo tumor that needed removing.  Since hubby was totally knocked on for this one instead of just an epidural like the one in March, he was quite sick coming out of anesthesia.   I was in the room with him when our granddaughter and her sweetie came in to “check on Pop”.

You have to know Alexandra and Pop to see the love they have for each other.  Alex worked with us in our shop starting at about 6 weeks old so she basically grew up on Pop’s shoulder and with her finger wrapped around his.

There is so much love and caring between these two and while visiting in the hospital she made sure that even when she went home, Pop would be able to hold her hand.  She grabbed an exam glove, blew it up, poked a hole in a cup so it would stand up and gave Pop her hand.

I told hubby he needs to listen to Alex and his surgeon, don’t start back to work too soon or expect to mow the lawn right away.  If he doesn’t listen, Alex’s hand may just bop him in the head!

When I see all the love that Alexandra has for her Pop, it makes my heart feel good knowing that she will always be loving and caring like she always has been.  It’s the little things that matter and the memories of love always stay in your heart.

In a few weeks, Alexandra and Stevie will welcome their daughter into the world and hubby and I can’t wait to meet our 5th great grand baby.  Lia Faith may just continue to wrap her finger around Pop!

This is a blog I wrote in June 2016 with a letter that Alexandra wrote for Father’s Day to her Pop. You may need a kleenex when you read this!  http://themarthareview.com/thoughts-from-our-granddaughter/

What a sweet, thoughtful, creative gesture. And I agree, it’s the little things that matter. Like the braided bracelet my granddaughter gifted me with as I drove her to the library.

My family is so glad your husband is on the mend Charlie says and he wanted to let you know if he was closer he would mow the yard for him. As for the hand, he has asked if he goes back to the Emergency Room if she would make him one as well we love you and you and wish you a Blessed weekend.

Thanks Glenda and Charlie is so sweet to say that about mowing the lawn! Tell him I hope he doesn’t have to go back to the ER but if he does, we’ll be thinking of him! Thanks for stopping by and a blessed weekend for you and your family also.

Martha, I was crying when I read this how sweet and so much love. It makes me miss my grandfather so much. That bond is one that is so strong and filled with love. He is her Earth Angel and she is his.

I remember how close you and your grandfather were from your posts Brenda, the love will be forever in your heart. It’s things like the “hand” or little notes that she messages are so much more meaningful than anything store bought. However a few years ago she sent “pop” a pen with the inscription “The Most Important Man in My Life”. When I posted a picture of that, I told her she better not have a jealous husband! LOL Pop has carried that pen with him everyday since he received it. Hugs!
