Spiritual Sunday Blessings

My Spiritual Sunday Blessings blog is a bit different today. My 82 year old neighbor was in the hospital for about three weeks in August and he has the sweetest dog that he rescued from a no kill shelter when she was 6 weeks old, DeDe is now 6 years old. DeDe has been such a blessing for him. His wife passed away 10 years ago and their dog passed away a few years later. DeDe and him needed each other.

When he was taken to the hospital I brought DeDe home with me. Snowball is a one person dog and so protective. But when I introduced them to each other, DeDe and Snowball were great together. They even both loved their ice cream nightly snack!

I would take DeDe to visit him in the hospital and everyone fell in love with her. She would look at her master as if to say, I love and miss you. When it was time for him to be released from the hospital DeDe stayed with him but I’d bring her to my house at times. The one thing Snowball won’t tolerate is another dog on “his” sofa. But DeDe was fine on the dog bed.

The dogs love taking daily walks and romping in the backyard with my next door neighbors dog, Buddy.
A few weeks after DeDe’s master came home, hospice started visiting a few days a week until it turned into coming everyday. I brought DeDe back with Snowball and me and although I could tell she missed her master, she was happy with Snowball.
I even get her to walk up and down the stairs slowly, I don’t think she has every climbed stairs but she’s doing great.
Last week was very sad, DeDe’s master was called home to be with his wife and DeDe was lost. Since his three grown children all live in different areas between three and four hours away I told them DeDe could stay with me until they decide her next step.
God called him home and he is now pain free and back in the arms of his sweet wife. DeDe is safe and happy with Snowball and me for however long is needed. My prayers go out to his children and grandchildren but they all have so many wonderful memories to hold in their hearts.

I was surprised the other day when I went upstairs and both dogs were on the same blanket! This was a first and I think it was their way of saying everything will be okay.
We don’t know God’s plan but I’m so thankful that I was able to help the family out with DeDe and I’m blessed to meet all of my neighbor’s wonderful, caring children.
