Song from the 70’s
I like the number 13, never considered it unlucky. So as I came up with a Song from the 70’s for today’s prompt, it brought back memories once again.
I’ve always liked folk songs and even though I’ve never been to Colorado I like Rocky Mountain High. This song was written by John Denver and Mike Taylor about Colorado. John Denver first recorded this song in 1972 and became #9 on the US Hot 100 list in 1973.

Our favorite mountains are the Great Smoky Mountains, it’s only about a five hour drive to get to a little piece of heaven and we can even talk to God!
Like some other singer/songwriters, John Denver lost his life in a plane crash on October 12, 1997. He was 53 years old and ten years later a plaque was placed near the crash site in Pacific Grove, California, commemorating the singer.

I was never a big fan of John Denver. But, I do recall my friends dragging me to a concert at the University of Michigan Basketball Stadium back in 1975. (It helped that I was leaving at 0 dark thirty that same night to present a paper to a medical conference.)
I never went to any of his concerts but I’ve always like country and folk music. Thanks for sharing your memory Roy. Hope you made it to the conference in time!
I remember singing this when it came on the radio when I was young. I hope to go-to Colorado one day! And I agree- the Smoky Mtns are awesome and I’ve been thru there many times on trips from Michigan to South Carolina
