Palm Sunday is April 9, 2017

Palm Sunday is the day when Christians celebrate the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the week before his death and resurrection. Palm Sunday is often called “Passion Sunday” is the last Sunday of Lent and it marks the beginning of Holy Week, which ends on Easter Sunday. This year  Palm Sunday is April 9, 2017.

Palm branches, which are recognized for peace and victory are handed out to the parishioners before Mass and are then Blessed at the beginning of Mass with the Priest walking up and down the pews sprinkling Holy Water on them.  Once the palms are blessed, they can not be thrown in the trash. Any palms that are left in the church will be incinerated to create the ashes that will be used in the follow year’s Ash Wednesday observance.

The color during Lent is purple, then the Mass on Palm Sunday is changed to red and white which symbolizes the redemption in blood that Jesus Christ paid for the world. This is a picture of our church, Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church during Palm Sunday celebration.

Below is a blog I wrote last your about Palm Sunday and added the beautiful songs that were sung during Mass.
