P is for Penguins

P is for Penguins

Since my 19 year old granddaughter loves penguins, I had to problem coming up with P is for Penguins for the A to Z Challenge.  I love to watch penguins waddle around in the “tuxedo-like” appearance.  Actually their black and white feathers are a form of camouflage to keep them safe when in the water.   The penguins have wing-bones but they are more flipper like and perfect for swimming.  They can’t fly in the air, but get to where they are going in the water by flapping their wings. Penguins are found in the Southern Hemisphere where they catch their food underwater and bring it to the land to feed their young.  Penguins usually spend up to 75% of their lives in water, including doing all their hunting there also.  They catch their food in their beaks and swallow them whole as they swim.

Some of my favorite Christmas decorations are a pair of penguins kissing each other, the other is a ornament that says “Mama”, that’s what my granddaughter calls me. When I see something with a penguin on it, I usually surprise my granddaughter with it.  One year I found fleece penguin sleepy pants and other time I got her a cute penguin t-shirt.

I found a really cute penguin necklace that was actually two in one.  One side said, “Best” and the other said, “Friend”.  Both had a little penguin on the charm and each had a chain. Alexandra was staying with us last summer and when it was time for her to go back home she took one part with her and I have the other.  She is not just my granddaughter and me her grandmother, we are Best Friends.

Alexandra turned 20 years old in March and I found the most adorable stuffed mama penguin with a baby attached to it. It’s so soft and cuddly and knew I had to send it to her.   That way she would always have her “mama” with her.

I’m having such a great time writing blogs for the A to Z April Blog Challenge, writing about the letter P today.  The challenge is to write a blog starting with the first letter of the alphabet on day one and continue through the month every day except Sunday.  For the previous letter, I wrote about  O is for Omelette   and I shared how I make mine.  If you are participating in this challenge, please share your blog link in comments, I’d love to read yours!

Another great blog challenge is the Ultimate Blog Challenge .  The challenge is to write a blog a day for the month of April and so far I’ve completed it every day.

I’m so sorry to read about your daughter Glenda. I can’t imagine your pain and heartache, but “all the memories of the passed, forever in your heart will last”. Sending hugs and prayers to you.

  5. Those stuffed penguins are SO CUTE!!! I think they are cute, in general, but the ones in that first picture are adorable! And I think it’s so sweet that you one to your granddaughter so she would still feel close to you. 🙂

Thanks Jeanine, whenever I see penguins in a pair, I get them so I can send one to my granddaughter. I love and miss her so much, 1000 miles is a long ways away. Thanks for visiting.

  6. I have a niece who’s a big fan of penguins. It’s sort of the mascot for her and her husband.
