No Thirteenth Floor

No Thirteenth Floor

Today is Friday the thirteenth and many people are superstitious of that date. There are many condos in our area that have no thirteenth floor.  For me, the number thirteen doesn’t bother me at all.

We live in a tourist town and it looks strange to get in the elevator and have the floors go from the 12th floor to the 14th floor.  But there are people who don’t walk under ladders, get upset if a black cat passes in front of them and yes, even bypass the 13th floor.   So I guess the builders that constructed the condos decided it would be better to just forego having a 13th floor.

Today, Friday the 13th was a lucky day for me, I found another penny on the ground, sent down from heaven by my mother.  I saw butterflies and cardinals in the backyard, another sign that my mother was sending down love.

As I went over to mom’s garden, I enjoyed the sweet smell of the gorgeous azalea bush that we planted in her memory back in 2000.

Yes, today was a great day, hope yours was also.

I think it’s a bit amusing/silly myself. I mean, everyone knows in these cases the 14th floor is actually the 13th, but I guess as long as you don’t have to actively think about it? Hmm. I saw a YouTube video earlier today where the vlogger had been on vacation in Malasia. Their unlucky number is 4, since apparently the symbol for 4 and the symbol for death are very similar. In that country, and perhaps in other Asian countries in the region, there are no 4th or 14th floors.

That’s interesting to know about Malasia Jen, I had never heard of that. It may end up that there is something unlucky to every number for some people. For me, I love them all!

  2. Our mothers, who art in heaven. How I love it when you mention love from heaven, sent by your mom! <3

I can feel mom’s love even though she has been in heaven since 2000 Jeanine. I hope you are feeling the same from your loving mom. I’m sure she is watching down and guiding you.

The VA hospital in Portland, where my Dad was, does not name the floor he was on, because it was a cancer ward…about as superstitious and seriously wrong as not listing the 13th floor!

    • Martha says:

That sounds totally ridiculous to not name a floor for that reason Katherine. Some builders must have too much time on their hands. Thanks for stopping by and sharing that.

There is also no 13th row in a plane! I think 13 is a cool number because it is prime…

totally agree with you Martha.. while I believe in signs like the ones you mention about the found penny and the azaleas blooming, things like unlucky numbers and crossing cats – not so much..

    • Martha says:

I just think it’s kinda childish to worry about things like unlucky numbers, black cats or even stepping on cracks in the sidewalk. I prefer the spiritual signs that I can feel inside my heart. Thanks for stopping by Vidya.
