National Calendar Day for July 14th

I like to check on the National Calendar Day to see if there is something of interest to blog about. Well the first thing that was listed for National Calendar Day for July 14th was National Nude Day but that won’t work so I decided to see what else this day brings. It’s also National Mac and Cheese Day, Cow Appreciation Day, National Grand Mariner Day (I don’t drink so that’s out) and National Tape Measure Day. Now that works since we always had at least ten tape measures at work for sewing and a variety of steel tape measures for installing the hardware and treatments we fabricated.

Rich and I owned and operated an interior decorating shop with an in-store workroom so I always had a 120″ tape measure draped around my neck like a necklace. Even our grands and great grands would have a tape measure necklace when they “worked” with us at the shop.

We also had a twelve foot long cutting table with 144″ metal tape measures along each side. Our motto was “measure twice and cut once.” Well that worked because our business lasted for over 50 years before we retired.

One suggestion on how to celebrate was Share Your Projects: Take a photo of whatever you are working on or measuring and post it to social media using the hashtag #NationalTapeMeasureDay. It just so happens I’m working on a project on my side front yard and I need to get rocks, bricks or something else to make a border around the new area. I was just outside yesterday measuring it and I have two options. I can border the front, side and rear which is about 40 feet or I can go to the end of the bushes which is about 70 feet.

I’m very frugal so I check to see if anyone is getting rid of brick or border stones at a reasonable price. I haven’t found any yet but I know something will show up and after I put my border around the area I can fill it in with recycled glass chips from our county recycling center.

So that’s my story for National Tape Measure Day and my upcoming project I have been measuring. Do you have a story for any of the National Calendar Days for July 14th?
