My Butterfly House and Milkweed

I have a very exciting Friday Story Time by Lia today! For the past month I have participated in Lowe’s Home Improvement Garden to go kits campaign. Each week they had a give away but you had to register the week before and hope you were selected before they ran out. Ma stayed awake until midnight each week when the sign up started and I was so excited to get three out of four of the give aways. Yesterday was the last week and I received my Butterfly house and Milkweed which is a plant that Monarch butterflies lay their eggs on.

Butterfly House Kit

Pop drove us to Lowes to pick up my butterfly house kit and as soon as we got home I started to build it all by myself! Each piece has little pegs on one side that fits in little holes on the other pieces. This is me building my butterfly house step by step. Putting the roof on was a little bit of a struggle trying to line up the pegs and holes, but I did it!

Look at my butterfly house all done! I like to do projects and this one was really fun especially since I LOVE butterflies!

I still have to paint it but I was so anxious to see how it would look in the garden. For now we put it between two rose bushes in my great, great gramma’s memory garden. I took the last two pictures all by myself and I like how I got both my butterfly house and GGgramma’s Angel in the last picture. We have to plant the seeds later today and I’ll be watching them grow and hope to see butterflies lay eggs on them.

I got up early this morning and planted the Milkweed for the butterflies. First I added soil to a pot, dropped in the seeds and after I covered them up I watered the soil. Carefully I cared the flowerpot with the seeds over to the garden.

After I planted the Milkweed seeds ma got out the paint so I could paint the butterfly house! I painted the walls blue with a red roof.

The kit also had three little butterflies that I painted and glued on the front of the house. Doesn’t my house look beautiful? I had so much fun getting my butterfly house and milkweed seeds ready for the butterflies. Now I have to wait and hope to see some!

Last year my friend surprised me and sent me a butterfly hose to raise Painted Lady butterflies. This is my story from when I took care of my butterflies from when they were larva until they turned into beautiful butterflies that I released in my garden! http://themarthareview.com/the-life-of-lias-butterflies/

Pepper Plant

The first week of the give away I received a big Lowe’s pail with a bag of Miracle Gro potting soil and fertilizer plus a pair of garden gloves! Then I had a choice to pick a pepper or tomato plant and I picked a pepper! Pop loves stuffed peppers so I can make him one with a pepper from my plant! I dug a hole in the garden and carefully put the pepper plant in. Next I covered the hole with the soil and watered it good. Pop and I water the garden every morning and look at all the little pepper blossoms that are already growing!

Loblolly Pine Tree

I missed the third week where they had a Pinata but the next week the give away was a Loblolly pine tree which is a native to South Carolina where I live. Instead of planting the tree in the garden I planted it in a big pot until it grows bigger. First I made a hole in the soil and put the little tree in the center of the pot. After I covered the hole with the soil, I patted it down and watered it. Look at me tree standing so straight!

Every morning I check to see how my tree is growing. After pop and I water it, the sun comes out and helps my tree grow!

I had so much fun with my Lowe’s Garden to go kits but my favorite is my butterfly house and milkweed! Thank you Lowes for all these cool garden projects that I have been working on!
