Field Trips for Friday Story Time by Lia

Hi everyone, I’m back in South Carolina for the month of July! This past week I’ve been on vacation with daddy, my grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousins in Carolina Beach, NC. I’ll have lots to write about that next week.

I was visiting daddy and ma the beginning of June for two weeks and I want to share my field trips for Friday Story Time by Lia today. Last summer I went to Summer camp while visiting but this year instead of Summer camp at the Y, I went to Ma’s Summer Camp! We planned something everyday from baking, sewing, painting, swimming and just hanging out. I made a dress for one of my dolls and I worked on making wire hangers for the heart shaped shells we collect. Ma is going to hang them on a long branch when we get them done. But one day each week, ma planned a field trip!

The first week we went to the garden center and bought three pollinator plants for my garden so the butterflies would have food and a place to lay their eggs. After we got home, I had to clean my garden from all the branches that fell over the winter. After it was all raked we were ready to plant my new flowers.

The first picture is before I started to clean my garden and the next one is after I planted my new flowers.

About a week later a beautiful swallowtail butterfly landed on my flowers! It had a broken wing but ma’s friend told us when a butterfly gets old, sections of their wings start to fall out. So I learned something new about butterflies.

The second week ma surprised me with a field trip to an aquatic and reptile store! Her neighbor Andrew owns it. So Andrew’s mom, Judy, ma and I had an awesome tour of Anderon Aquatics and Reptiles Store. Sunny is a twelve foot long python but he was all curled up under his dish. The big wooden case in the other picture is a big new home for Sunny. Andrew is building it from floor to ceiling so Sunny will have lots of room to crawl around. If it’s finished I want to go see it while I’m here.

The aquatic side has so many fish! Daddy has a big fish tank and I saw some of the same kind of fish that he has. When ma was taking the pictures it looks like I’m in the fish tank with the fish! But they also have the cutest turtles and I wanted to get one. When I called mommy she said we would talk about after my July visit. They are so cute and tiny but then Andrew told me they don’t stay little, they grow to about 12″ to 14″ around. That might change things with mommy. LOL

The reptile side was my favorite. Look at this cute lizard! He’s just a baby but was just chilling in my hand. Can you guess what’s coming up next? I was so excited to see the snakes!

This is Andrew showing my one of the snakes. After I held it, he put it around my neck and then it crawled around my arm and hand.

Then Andrew took this yellow snack out and it crawled around my arm like a bracelet. Judy even had the snake crawl around her arm. I asked ma if she wanted to hold it but she told me she was too busy taking pictures. I’m not sure if she would hold it even if someone else took pictures. We all had a great time on our field trip!

After our trip was over, Andrew’s mom had to go back home but Judy, ma and I had other plans. We stopped at McDonald’s and went to the North Myrtle Beach park. After lunch we all had fun on the playground. Judy was a bit nervous when I walked over the rope bridge but that’s one of my favorite things to do.

I had so much fun when I was here in June but wait until you see what July brings. So that’s it for this week, hope to see you back next week when I share more adventures for Friday Story Time by Lia.
