Evening Beach Walk

Today’s suggested blog topic is about seasons. What is our favorite season and why do we love it, do we love the season we are in or prefer another and what is your favorite thing about your favorite season? For my that’s easy, I live near the beach in South Carolina so must of the year is tolerable but spring has always been my favorite season. I love it because the weather is cool but getting warmer, the flowers and trees are budding and looking beautiful. The summer gets so hot and humid and there are days I don’t look forward to going outside until the evening. But springtime we can plant gardens, watch them grow and freeze fresh vegetables for the winter. We can swim usually starting the beginning of April and the water is refreshing, not like summer when it’s bath water temperature. Last night my neighbor and I took a walk along the beach and we didn’t even need a sweatshirt!
An Evening Beach Walk
Yesterday my neighbor and I took an evening beach walk, something we do often. We stroll down the beach after 5pm since there are less people around and it’s free parking after 5! We don’t have a plan, we just walk until it gets dark, maybe find a pretty shell and talk about the day. We have to make sure we head back to the parking area before dark because it’s easy to “misplace” where we entered the beach. One evening we thought we pin pointed our location only to walk up to the parking area and there was no car! We over shot our mark and we were three lots north of where the car was! Since then we have been careful to find a landmark and hopefully remember it.

The first thing I did was draw a heart with a love note. The tide was going out so I wasn’t sure if the waves would catch the love note I wrote for Rich. We watched them gently curl up to the heart but not close enough to grab it. Little by little the waves reached the heart with the love note and carried it to heaven.

As the last wave carried it out, I noticed something I hadn’t seen before. There was an imprint of my message that stayed on the sand. Maybe Rich was sending that to me.

Within a short distance after the love note was sent, Deb and I were walking and talking. We both looked down at the same time and saw this beautiful shell just waiting for us, maybe another sign from Rich.

We usually walk a few miles but last night was different, way different! We ended up walking past two piers and Deb checked the miles and it was 3.25 miles from where we started. Since it was almost sunset we decided we should head back. Our little beach stroll ended up being over 6 miles! But when we are walking and talking, both the time and steps go by without realizing how far we’ve gone.

The ocean was so blue last night, since my phone died along our walk, Deb took this beautiful picture of the ocean meeting the sky. Another lady strolling down the beach took our picture.

We turned around after the second pier and hiked back the 3 plus miles. Deb took this beautiful picture of the sun slowly dropping down beyond the horizon. These are some of the bigger shells we found, now we need to start some projects using the shells we find.
We had an enjoyable beach walk over 6 miles and it’s times like this why my favorite season is Spring.
