Easter and Spiritual Sunday

Today is Easter and Spiritual Sunday, for my it has two meanings. If you are a believer, Christians are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, the third day after his crucifixion. But for me it’s also a sad day, the day when God called my husband home. This is a cross Lia and are grandmother made for Rich and me when she was 3 years old.

Easter morning March 31, 2024 I came downstairs, we exchanged hugs, kisses, I love you and Happy Easter. The one thing I will always remember was Rich telling me he didn’t make my Easter card yet. He wasn’t big on Hallmark or American Greeting cards, for 59 years he would make his own cards for me, some were drawings, some were doddles and others were just messages. Whether it be birthdays, holidays or just “I love you” days, I would always find a card with a flower waiting for me on the table. When he told me he didn’t make my card yet, I told him I don’t need a card, I have him and all his love. The world changed 20 minutes later when God called him home.
Day by day, I’m working on my grief and I’ve come to realize things. As our priest mentioned in the homily recently, our earth life is temporary, we are here for spiritual growth, doing good and loving & helping others. That was what Rich did best, he was always helping others.

I’ve always wondered why God put us together on Christmas and then called Rich home on Easter. Maybe because those are two very special days and Rich was a very special person to so many.
I wrote my Christmas to Easter Romance blog April 1, 2025, a year after Rich went to his heavenly home. http://themarthareview.com/christmas-to-easter-romance/
May those who celebrate have a blessed Easter Sunday.

How sweet that Rich always hand-made your cards. I’m sure each one is so cherished now.
Yes Barbara, I have a pile of them. I love handmade cards more than store bought, they come from the heart.
Hugs and prayers, Martha. I hope that you have a beautiful Easter today. Trinity also sends her love to you.
Thanks Alice, I actually have a beautiful Easter day. I spent it with my “church angel” couple and their family. They have “adopted” me has their mom and I’m so thankful for all their love, compassion and kindness.
Thank you for sharing. I love that Rich would make you cards. How special! Happy Easter!
Thanks Jennifer, Rich would make cards, not just on holidays, but loved to write little notes to have waiting for me in the morning with a flower. These memories are what keep me going.
Having Easter and the jahrtzeit so close together must have been intense. May your faith in Christ comfort you, dear e-friend.
In the beginning I questioned why God planned our first meeting on Christmas but then took him home on Easter. I’ve learned a lot after going through my year of “firsts” and realized Earth is not our permanent home. With so many signs I get from Rich, although he is not here physically, he will always be with me spiritually. Thanks for visiting Priscilla.
