Color of the Day is Grey

Today for the Color Challenge the Color of the Day is GREY…..or is it GRAY? Way back when I learned my colors from my crayon box I was taught that the spelling was GRAY but on the Challenge sheet it’s GREY.

I did a little research and found when using this word as in color there are two acceptable spellings. GRAY is used mostly in the United States and other areas that use US English. GREY is used in Great Britain and areas that use UK English. The only exceptions to these rules are: 1. Proper nouns such as a last name;Earl Grey and Zane Grey would not be spelled Gray and L.H. Gray must be always be spelled Gray. 2. Greyhound as in the dog breed. 3. Food irradiation (quantity of radiation energy absorbed by the food as it passes through the radiation field during processing). 1 Gray = 0.001 kGy = 1 joule of energy absorbed per kilogram of food irradiated.

When all else fails.. grAy is how it’s spelled in America. grEy is how it’s spelled in England.

When Lia was a few months old GGpapa and I surprised her when she was visiting her Uncle in Indiana. We painted her room a light gray and it looked beautiful against her white furniture. See the bookshelf, that was Lia’s mommy’s when she was a little girl! We added pink trim to the edges to go with Lia’s bedding, Minky rug and window treatment. For Christmas we got a cute chevron striped chair in gray, white and pink.

Another gray is the Minky Blanket I made for Lia after she was born. Of course the back was pink Minky. Her mommy used this blanket for Lia’s monthly milestones until she turned a year old.

I just finished this adorable Minky bedspread for a little girl’s 2nd birthday. It’s gray with white polka dots with pink Minky fabric. I’m having fun with my new embroidery machine I got to review so I added her name to the pillow.

More gray paint! I loved how Lia’s room turned out so we painted our office, hall and TV room gray! It’s so refreshing and goes with so much. Both the office and TV room have one red accent wall. The gray draperies and red top treatment finish the TV room.

On a gloomy day both the sky and ocean seem to turn to a cold looking gray. When taking a picture of gray clouds, it almost looks like I’m taking a black and white photograph!

When driving through the Nantahala National Forest in the western part of North Carolina, we like to stop at the Gorge where this sign chiseled in a large gray rock can be found.

So as I’m going through the gray colorways I thought it would be appropriate to end with a gray plane flying high in the clouds. Hope you enjoyed the Color of the Day is Grey….or is it Gray!
