Butterfly Painting Project

When Lia was here in June we started our butterfly painting project. I found three cement butterflies last year on Marketplace but I wanted to wait until Lia was here to paint them.

So Lia, our friend Judy and I started our painting party when she was visiting in June. I waited until the last day she was here, not realizing Lia was going to make us paint not ONE but THREE base coats! We had to let each coat dry before we could even start the painting.

But we did get a good start on them for when she came down this trip. For starters Lia painted her butterfly teal, Judy was creative with multi colors and I painted my blue and black to get as close to the butterflies that visit me when I’m in Cherokee. We got a good start on them before Lia had to go back to Indiana and we would finish them her next trip down.
Last week it was time to finish painting the butterflies but the weather has been so brutally hot we couldn’t paint in the garage, instead I turned the TV room into a craft painting room!

The three of us were like busy little bees (or should I say like fluttering butterflies) doing the finishing touches on our painting. Of course Lia took first prize for adding so much detail to her butterfly.

Our butterflies are finished and again Lia showed us up again! She not only painted the front, but she sponge painted with multi colors on the back of hers! But I think we all did good, Judy blended yellows and teal and I blended the black and blue with the white dots while Lia used purple, teal, reddish orange with multi white dots. But then she went one more step and outlined all the colors with black!

Every time I see a butterfly it brings back memories of Rich because they are always around me when I visit our special spots in Cherokee and when I’m working in the backyard gardens. I asked Lia where we should put them and while I was thinking of his garden, she said we should put them in the front yard so everyone can remember Pop. So they are under my front window to spread love and happiness. The butterfly on my hand is the one that follows me around in Cherokee and while it’s far from exact, I tried to paint mine to look similar to those that surround me with memories.
We have had such a fun these past three weeks and now were winding down but still have a fun filled week ahead!
