About My Blog How I Got Started
I’m so excited, the Ultimate Blog Challenge for July has begun and I’m happy to say I haven’t missed writing a blog for the month yet! Oh wait, it’s only the second day! LOL But have no fear, when I set me mind to something, I have the NEED to complete it. I’m always up to a challenge and I turn it into my own personal goal to get to the end. But if by chance the brakes are put on, I can look back and use this as a learning experience and try to figure out why I wasn’t able to finish writing only 31 blogs! But hopefully, that won’t happen! If you missed my first blog of the challenge, you can read it here and get more information on the Ultimate Blog Challenge if you have not already signed up. http://themarthareview.com/july-2017-ultimate-blog-challenge/ But now on to the second day and I’m going to take the suggested topic from the daily email from host Paul and share a little about my blog how I got started and my niche. Oh wait, I don’t have a niche, I just write what comes to mind.
For starters, my blog was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 2014. I had always thought about starting a blog but it was so over whelming (for me at least) and wasn’t sure where to start. My oldest grandson who is very tech savvy and I were talking and when I told him I was thinking of starting a blog, he said, “Let’s do it now!” He went to get his laptop, opened up WordPress and asked me what I wanted to name my blog. Uhhh, I have no idea! So after a few questions on what I planned to accomplish on my blog, I told him I needed somewhere to post my product reviews since I was heavy into that. Names flowed off his tongue and they all sounded great. Then he said in a loud voice, “THE MARTHA REVIEW! Yes, I can see it now, flashing lights on the marquise, “Coming soon “THE MARTHA REVIEW”. He explained that with my product reviews the title is perfect but if I was to expand it would fit with everything, sorta sounds like a TV show doesn’t it? My story begins here: http://themarthareview.com/how-i-got-started-at-blogging/
I was so excited to finally have my own blog to write my reviews but it didn’t take long to realized I had other topics I wanted to share so one by one, different categories were added. I enjoy sharing helpful money-saving tips and how-to’s like this one http://themarthareview.com/easy-receipt-earning-apps/ plus I’m always coming up with quick, easy and inexpensive meals. One of my favorite meals is http://themarthareview.com/thirty-minute-dinner/ My blog ideas wouldn’t end and I added Beauty and Skin Care plus Give-A-Way categories, just to know a few. So there is no way I can have a niche and only blog about one topic, my mind has too much to share! My 20-year-old granddaughter went through a horrific ordeal last year with a tumor that infiltrated into her spinal cord and I had so many people who were following her progress so a blog was the best way to go. That’s how I came up with the Health and Wellness category http://themarthareview.com/finally-time-for-alexandras-surgery/
Watching my stats go from just a few, then a few hundred was so exciting when I first started. I would message my grandson to tell him I had 10 views in one day! To me that was big news. It didn’t take long to see my views jump to 50 or 60 a day and then over 100 and I’m now over 50,000 views! I was sharing my grandson’s server and in April 2016 I was ready to move yet again to my own server. Oh my, the way my grandson described the process had me scratching my head but again with his guidance, I migrated over. This is the blog I wrote about my migrating experience: http://themarthareview.com/migration/
I’m so thankful that my grandson was here to help me set up my blog and guide me along the way. He is such an entrepreneur and this is a little about his business http://themarthareview.com/business-insider-ripe-healthy-catering-nyc/ Meanwhile, here I am, gone from December 2014 to April 2017 and I’m enjoying writing my blogs, continuing to learn new things and wondering where my next step will take me.
Martha, I had no idea your blog was started at Christmas but that’s a great time to start. My blog is not quite a year old yet. I too, get excited when see the number of views I get.
You are doing great with yours Brenda! I’ve been following you from day one! Good luck on the challenge, we only have 29 more days! LOL
You are as blessed as I am as you have your grandson to help you. Although I did my blog on my own but when it come to the technical aspects I go to my nephew as he is a computer programmer. Also, like you I couldn’t do just one Niche. So it is nice to meet someone like me that I have things in common with.
Aren’t grand children grand Glenda! Since my blog started, I have actually learned a lot just from trial and error. I’m always excited to learn new things and at my age of almost 70, it’s actually sticking in my brain. LOL Sounds like we have a lot in common between helpful grandsons and no niche. On to the challenge, thanks for stopping by.
I’m so happy to have bumped into another tech savvy granny . You have a head start over me in terms of granniehood ( my eldest is only 4) but he already thinks I need help with Apps etc and actually shocks me by saying things like ” Aji you need to delete the app and download it again ” . This was after Peppa Pig refused to show up on the YouTube channel for the fourth time in a row.
Little ones are SO tech savvy Bellybytes! When my now 21 year old granddaughter was in kindergarten, she would come home and tell me about the computer. I didn’t even have one but I figured maybe I should get in the tech world to keep up with her. She too was the one that got me out of a jam many times when I had a blue screen. She would tap a few keys and I was back in business! Aren’t grands GRAND!! Thanks for visiting!
