A Few Tips and Reminders

WOW I was amazed at the number of bloggers that joined the February Ultimate Blog Challenge! A big welcome back to those who have already been here and a another big welcome to those who are just joining in the UBC. I want to share a few tips and reminders to you. I like to share these as a reminder for the previous challenge members and especially to help the new members.

First is the Save Draft that I like to remind bloggers about. If you don’t write your blog in Word or somewhere else Save Draft can be very helpful if your content mysteriously disappears. I learned this the hard way when I was typing my blog, the internet briefly went out and I lost all my content! Very quickly I learned to click the Save Draft after each paragraph.

Have you heard about the Control Z secret? Sometimes my brain is working faster than my typing on what I’m writing. When that happens somehow I hit the wrong button (not sure which one) and my content disappears.  But I found a way to magically have it come back thanks to my granddaughter! As long as you haven’t typed anything after it’s gone, just click Control and Z at the same time and your content will be back on your blog. How cool is that? http://themarthareview.com/control-z/

The next tip I’m sharing is secret words. Sometimes if Facebook sees the same comment over and over they will treat it like spam. One of the main ones is after you leave a comment on someone’s blog, you type “commented and tweet” in the comments on the daily thread. I found a way around this also Sometimes I add capital letters that correspond to Comment, Tweet, Like, Share, Follow. If you see CommenTed that means I commented on and tweeted your blog. Other times I’ll come up with silly sayings that have words with the letters capitalized. So if you see a capital letter in my comments to your blog, just remember that’s telling you I’ve commented, shared and liked it! http://themarthareview.com/secret-messages-in-words/

I started my blog on Christmas Day 2014 and I learned mostly by trial and error. When I come across something that I think will help others, I love to share it. It might be about blogging, money saving tips, healthy eating recipes or anything else that I think will be helpful.

Today’s suggested topic is to write about your niche but since I wanted to get these tips out early in the blog I decided to post these today. However last year I wrote about My Niche and Lia. Lia is my 2 year old great granddaughter that is more like my shadow. She loves to bake, sew, do gardening and help with everything! This is our blog…http://themarthareview.com/my-niche-and-lia/

One more thing, Lia is a mask spokesperson and doesn’t leave home without one on!

I started my blog on Christmas Day 2014 mainly to review products I received. Since then it has evolved into many other categories of lifestyles, family, money saving ideas, low cost, delicious and healthy meals plus other surprise posts. My granddaughter has her own category, Alex's Articles and the latest addition to my blog is my great granddaughter now has her category, Lia's Likings The Baby Blogger! Lia started blogger at 8 months old and she now has a Friday Story Time blog you won't want to miss! I welcome you to join the conversation, ask a question, give a suggestion or leave a comment on any blog post. I hope you enjoy Lia's Likings, she has some great posts that will make you smile!

  1. My blogs all start out in Word. then, I upload about five or six of them to the queue. Then, they are edited in situ- to be published at a later date. Hopefully, all those editing sessions render the blog to be in perfect shape.

Sounds like you have a great plan Roy! For some reason I’ve never got into writing them in Word, probably because I’m clicking the keys late at night to be ready for morning posting!

All great advice! I learned that Control Z trick from you! My only problem is that I type so fast I don’t always see that my copy has disappeared. No easy fix there – which is why I should really start using Word for my draft posts.

  5. So much richness in this post. Oh, how I love all the previews of what is to come. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

I wouldn’t miss your challenge Paul! I’m in my 6th consecutive year! I’m still learning about blogging but love to share with others what I’ve learned.

  9. Martha, I love Control-Z! And I hit Save Draft verrrry frequently. But I did not know that the system will treat similar comments as spam–although that makes sense. So thanks again!

  10. Those are great tips, Martha! I didn’t know that control + Z is an undo trick. I have needed that more than once!!

Wow! I could have used the control z thing a couple of nights ago! I wonder if I’ll remember next time it rolls around.
