The Frozen Cabbage Verdict is In!

I love cabbage and last summer I became hooked on fried cabbage with bacon. It’s such a quick and easy meal to prepare. When our local store had cabbage on sale I bought a few heads and did an experiment of freezing the cabbage. This is my blog showing how I froze it, plus also my cabbage and bacon recipe. http://themarthareview.com/recipes-freezing-cabbage/ After the cabbage had been frozen, it was time to do another experiment to see how it did when frying it. I let the cabbage thaw out and proceeded to fry it with the bacon. Yesterday I had my third cabbage experiment of frying the cabbage frozen. And now the frozen cabbage verdict is in!

Thawing Cabbage before frying

In February I took a few pieces of cabbage from the freezer and let it thaw out. It was quite watery so I wrapped in paper towels to soak up the water. It wasn’t as “crunchy” when using fresh cabbage but I was pleased with the taste after frying it up. This blog shows the results. http://themarthareview.com/frozen-cabbage-success/

After I posted my results on the frozen cabbage, a follow blogger suggested to try cooking the cabbage while frozen to compare the difference. By the way if you are looking for some delicious Keto Recipes, check out the Chef William’s blog! https://ourlifeinmexico.com/

Frying Frozen Cabbage

So yesterday I experimented again. This time I took the cabbage from the freezer and sliced it up while frozen. You can even see the difference from the picture of the thawed cabbage in the paragraph above.

I fried up the bacon and even threw in an onion. When the bacon was browned, I tossed in the sliced cabbage, leaving the small amount of bacon grease in the pan. I cook it quick, tossing it as it browns and as soon as it was ready to sample, I was ready to eat! I couldn’t get over how crunchy it was just like when I made this with fresh cabbage, it even seemed to brown better! It wasn’t watery or mushy just delicious fried cabbage with bacon and onion.

The frozen cabbage verdict is in, frying the frozen cabbage is much better than thawing it first! This is such a quick, easy and inexpensive meal not to mention delicious! This is one more blog I wrote sharing my riced cauliflower and yes I freeze this too. It’s another quick and easy meal! http://themarthareview.com/cauliflower-rice/

What about cutting it smaller like you cook it and then freezing it?

That’s a great idea Wendy. When I first froze it, the suggestion was to quarter it and leave the core on. But I’ll try your suggestion since I cook it frozen that would save a step. Thanks!!

I am not one for Cabbage but I know it’s healthier and I need to fix it in place of Rice and Potao’s so its time to try it again and see if my taste has changed or if I can find a way I would like it.
