Step by Step Guide for Shelf
Today the suggested topic for Day 5 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge is to share a step by step guide for something. Things like a recipe, a project or even planning a trip are examples. This topic came at the perfect time because I recently modified my keyboard stand converted to laptop stand by adding a shelf under the plywood base. This is the blog showing how I converted the stand. http://themarthareview.com/keyboard-stand-converted-to-laptop-stand/
The computer stand worked out great but it was missing one thing, a shelf to hold the file I use daily for my product reviews. I need this at my fingertips at all times so I came up with a solution.
Supplies needed
For my project I needed four “L” brackets, screws, to pieces of 1″x 2″ and something for the shelf. I headed to the garage to find all the needed supplies.
Step 1
I calculated the size needed, marked where the “L” brackets would go and hubby drilled the holes and screwed the brackets in place.
Step 2
Next we cut the 1″x 2″ the length needed and I painted them black to match the stand. When the paint dried, hubby screwed them onto the brackets. This would now be the ledge to support my shelf.
Step 3
Since I didn’t need a heavy wooden shelf for my one folder (and I didn’t have any plywood hanging around), I searched through the garage and found the perfect shelf, I piece of foam board! I told you I never throw anything away! I measured the size the shelf was going to be, cut it with a linoleum knife and added duct tape to the three cut sides.
Step 4
I slid the shelf on the wood supports and that’s it! My folder now has the perfect spot to always be at my fingertips! I like this step by step guide topic, I may just have to use it again!
Very ingenious! That kind of stuff is not my area of skill, interest or expertise, good for you!!
Thanks Jyll, I enjoy coming up with ways to save money and save the landfill! I am a jack of all trades and a master of none but have fun coming up with ideas!
That is amazing, Martha! Thanks for this step by step guide. I know it’s the kind of thing my son would do in a heartbeat. I, on the other hand, am not the least but handy. Maybe I’ll have him try it.
Well you know me Jeanine, I’m either frugal or cheap! LOL I can always come up with ideas to make someone out of almost nothing! Thanks for stopping by!

Since I didn’t have plywood and really didn’t need anything that thick, I kept looking around my stash, knowing I would find something for the shelf! Thanks for stopping by Amrita!
