Spindle Cell Neoplasm
This is the second chapter about my 20 year old granddaughter’s health issues. If you missed the first chapter, this is the link:

After finding what appeared to be a collapsed left lung while reading her heart scan, Alexandra went for further tests and the results showed a 4″ tumor where originally the doctor thought it was collapsed. She had numerous scans but when the oncologist ordered a PET scan, her insurance denied it. They wanted a biopsy first while the oncologist wanted to scan the entire body before doing a lung biopsy. So the other option was for Alexandra to go through two separate CT scans with contrast. She wasn’t too happy about drinking that “yucky” stuff or being stuck again with IV’s. One scan was her lymph nodes and the other of her abdomen and thankfully both came back clean. The next step was the biopsy. The needle was inserted from her shoulder blade and for almost a week, our precious granddaughter was hurting when she took even small breaths. The following week was the longest week I have ever had, but once the results came in, we still didn’t know anything. Since the tumor is so large and the needle biopsy only took a small sample, the biopsy came back inconclusive. We did learn she has a Single Cell Neoplasm which is a slow growing tumor but at 10 cm already, this could have been growing for some time. Thinking back to when her rapid heart rate started I’m thinking maybe that was caused from pressure of the tumor since it’s close to her heart.
Hubby and I are in Ohio to be at the surgeon consultation with Alexandra and see what the next chapter will be.
