Rearranging the Kitchen Counter

A small project as simple as rearranging the kitchen counter can make it easier to get to the counter top appliances you have plus make it appear that you have more room. I rearranged my counter and it only took about 20 minutes for the new look.

As usual it sometimes takes me a few tries to get the look I want. This is what my counter looked like a few months ago. The white wire shelf stored bread and rolls. But I wanted to have a less cluttered look so I rearranged the corner cupboard and now store everything in there. As for the wire shelf, I moved that to Lia’s baking cupboard for her sprinkles! It’s now in the perfect spot!

I moved the toaster oven to the corner and added the cookie and doggy biscuit jars on the end. I like the corner much better this way. My new Ninja blender system takes a lot more room than my older blender but it fits perfect since the wire shelf has found a new home.

When the coffee pot was in the corner, it was not user friendly and always had to be pulled out before we could use. If things were on the counter it was a pain to get to it. So I put that on the other side and it’s much easier to reach. Lia’s mixer is next and now everything is right at our fingertips.

For my birthday Alexandra gave me a serving tray and I put it to good use for the few snacks that end up on the counter. Alex says it looks like a snack tray at a hotel! LOL

I’ve found that if I put a 30 minute time frame on small projects I can accomplish more. I don’t get distracted by moving things to a different room and then start another project before completing the first one. Yes, I’m finally learning the right way to de-clutter and reorganize! As for rearranging the kitchen counter, there is no more clutter!

I need to do this so much! We have a tiny, outdate kitchen that we want to remodel when we have money. Counter & cabinet space is at a premium, but some of these ideas I can use.

It looks good, especially the snack tray 🙂
The main reason I don’t buy any more kitchen appliances is because there’s no space!I don’t use my kitchen machine a lot, but it’s too big and heavy to put it away, let’s say in a cupboard when I’m done. So it’s just hanging out there, taking up space.
The other day I had to move my kettle. First I thought it was broken, but before I disposed of it, I plugged it into a different power outlet. Yay, it worked! Then hubby fround out that it was the “multiplug” that was broken.

I wish my counters would be this neat! My reorganization usually lasts for around 3 days and then everyone makes a mess of it. LOL

    I really love your countertops!

That’s how mine use to be Dominique but I have no one to blame on the mess except me. Now I put things away as soon as I’m finished with them. I feel better about looking at a neat and organized countertop. I love the granite countertops, we had them installed a few years ago and that’s partly what makes me want to have a organized kitchen so I can see the beauty.

  4. Martha, you’ve done another “systems engineering” job! Things are now in places that not only look great but also work better for your family, meaning everything takes less effort. And I’m always in favor of things taking less effort. Also, I love your rule of keeping the task to 30 minutes. I, too, will get distracted and start shredding old mail or cleaning a mirror, if the time is open ended. Then I don’t finish the task I started with, so I get no completion satisfaction. I sometimes set 2 timers to control myself and stay on task. You did a great job!

Oh I like my new title of systems engineer Kebba and it took such a short time! When I stated de-clutter the house a few years ago, it would take me days to do a room, now I find I can get so much more done in 30 minutes since I’m not getting distracted by going into another room. I’m like you, I can get distracted very easily!

You did a very nice job rearranging your kitchen counter! Our kitchen also needs a makeover. 🙂

    • Martha says:

Thanks Danwil, I’m always looking for ways to make life easier and the kitchen is always the room to work on. I think I can say I’m happy with it now.
