National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day

April 12th is grilled cheese day so when I heard about this, I knew I had to make grilled cheese sandwich for dinner. But not any grilled cheese sandwich, it had to be super colossal for National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day!

I’m going to share my step by step directions along with photos of how I make my super colossal seven layer sandwich. Yes, I said SEVEN LAYERS!!!

First I butter two pieces of bread and put the butter sides together while I’m building my sandwich. I find it’s easier to just move the bottom piece when putting it in the pan instead of trying to butter it after the cheese is inside.

Okay, next I added some shredded mozzarella cheese to the bread and then a slice of American cheese and then top that with more shredded cheese.   Now for the little “extra”, I added a layer of bacon!  On top of the bacon is more shredded cheese, another piece of American cheese and topped off with shredded mozzarella cheese.

So the seven layers are: cheese, cheese, cheese, bacon, cheese, cheese and cheese!  I can’t wait until this is cooked!

Next I remove the bottom piece of bread, put the sandwich in the heated fry pan and flop the buttered bread on top.  When the bottom gets toasty browned, flip over to brown the other side.

My seven layer super colossal grilled cheese sandwich was SO delicious and what a way to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day!

Every time I read your blog I want something good to eat and it’s not around the house. Now, I have to go shopping.

Maybe I should start a delivery service for my foods Brenda. LOL. There are times when I don’t kno what I want so I just pull things from the fridge or cupboard and make a creation. Thanks for stopping by!

I love grilled cheese and turkey bacon.

  3. Wow! A crazy day that is NOT the brainchild of Hallmark!
I might have made one (sans the bacon) had I known about it. But, now, I’m a day late and a few slices short (of bread, I’m never out of cheese).

Seems like everyday is some National something or other day Roy! I usually don’t find out until after work but this one hubby let me know in the morning so I had all day to think about how I would make it. Waiting for another chocolate day! Speaking of day, have a great one!

Wow, that is some sort of mega sandwich. Today, I am going to have a sandwich with avocado, tomato, smoked cheddar cheese, spinach, and a portabella mushroom! Thank you for reminding me. Really looking forward to my sandwich!

    • Martha says:

Your sandwich sounds yummy too Alice and it has cheese! I’m not big on mushrooms unless they’re on pizza but the other ingredients sound delicious. Thanks for stopping by.

  5. WOW!!! That looked superdelicious & yummy! I showed it to my son and he immediately said, “we’re making it!” 🙂

    Have a wonderful day!

I get a bit carried away when I’m cooking at times Jeanine! Let me know if you made one and how your son liked it. I also read your latest post and left a comment. Excellent! Thanks for stopping by.

This looks like a fun recipe to try for my kids this weekend! 😉

It sure was delicious Emily! I did have to be careful when I flipped it over so the bacon stayed put. Next time I will use my omelette pan where I just flip the pan! I would love to see your creation after you make it. Thanks for stopping by.
