Making a Snowman Ornament

We are on day 26 of the Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge, only 5 days to go! Today’s topic is content that is highly seasonal. What better of a topic than making a Snowman ornament Christmas gift!

Lia loves making crafts and every holiday she and I enjoy making handmade gifts for mommy. This Christmas she made a snowman ornament. It was easy and fun to put together. This is Lia’s story about making a Snowman ornament.

Hi, I know it’s not Friday but I’m sharing my Story Time by Lia with you today. Ma and I worked on this project together and it was fun! Ma cut out a snowman pattern out of paper, traced it onto poster board and cut it out. The next step of our project was my turn. First I colored the hat with a black marker and then glued cotton balls into the poster board snowman. I was so careful to make sure the cotton balls covered the body of the snowman. My fingers got glue on them so I had to be careful to keep the glue on the bottom of the cotton ball.

Now we needed some eyes and Ma just happens to have a large bag of all different sizes of wiggly eyes! I wanted big eyes so I used two medium sized ones for the eyes and a small size for three buttons.

I picked out some orange fabric for the Snowman’s nose and used the same color for his mouth. Doesn’t his nose look like a carrot? I found a scrap of red faux silk left from a project Ma and I had completed the other day and that was perfect for Mr. Snowman’s scarf. Pop get the fish string and threaded it through a hole he made in the center of the hat so I could hang it on the tree.

When I make a handmade gift, I always sign and date the back so as time goes by, mommy will remember how old I was when making them. I’m doing good on writing my name and I know how to spell it… L-I-A!!

Christmas morning I helped mommy open the package and she was so surprised and excited to see her puffy, cotton ball handmade snowman ornament.

I’m snuggling with mommy and Mr. Snowman is now hanging on our Christmas tree. When the tree comes down, the ornament will be carefully packed away with the other ornaments that I have made for mommy.

This is a very easy project, all you need is: poster board (or thin cardboard), cotton balls, glue, black marker, something for his eyes and buttons, fabric for a mouth and nose and another fabric or yarn for his scarf! It’s that easy to make a highly seasonal gift and so much fun! I hope you enjoyed reading about making a snowman ornament! See you soon with another cool blog!

  1. How cute! Lia, you did a great job!!

  2. Martha, Merry Christmas! What a loving explanation of Lia making the ornament. And what a charmer that snowman turned out to be. (What glue– white glue?) Making and saving ornaments every year is a tradition that can mean so much.

Thank you Kebba, Lia is so proud of her creations. We use Elmer’s clear glue and for some projects she uses the clear glue with glitter! My hope is that when Lia gets her own family, these ornaments will be turned over to her so the memories can continue.

Beautiful ornament, Lia. You did a great job! And you have very nice handwriting, too!
