Lia says Please Wear a Mask
This is a combined blog by Lia and me regarding Covid-19. These are not scientific facts, just our opinions on what we see and hear. Due to the rise in the number of positive Covid- 19 cases, some cities, counties and even states have made it mandatory to wear masks. Even Lias says Please Wear a Mask.
Some refuse to wear masks when out in public, some wear them even if their state hasn’t enacted this ruling. Over the past few weeks, the cases of Covid-19 have spiked in our state of South Carolina. Many tourists come to visit and some are from hot spot states. They leave with Covid-19, wonder if they brought it down from their state or along the way and how many were infected by them when they got back home. We have been wearing a face mask even before it was mandated since hubby is immune compromised.
When the virus first came around, it was said that older people and those immune compromised were at high risk. Now it seems that the 20 – 30 year olds are becoming infected, some even going to Covid-19 parties because they think it’s a hoax. The latest is young children, South Carolina has had two under 10 years old.
There are different opinions on masks but why not wear one just in case it will help prevent the spread of Covid-19. It’s said that by wearing a mask it will protect others since so many don’t even know if they have the virus.
It’s also been stated that children under 2 do not have to wear masks and there is a chance of suffocation. Lia learned to wear one early on when the virus arrived. She was about 19 months old and I put a mask on her puppy and showed Lia how to wear her mask. Yes she was under 2 years old but if you watch your child I don’t see how there could be a problem plus she doesn’t have it on for long periods of time.

The only place Lia goes is the the mailbox but she still wears her mask in case anyone is at the mail kiosk at the same time. As soon as I say let’s go to the mailbox Lia says, “Get keys, get my mask.” Lia is definitely a people person and loves to run up and say hi to the neighbors. Since the virus hit, she is now limited to waving to them at the end of the driveway. It also helps that she knows about wearing a mask if an occasion arises that she must be out in public she will know a mask must be worn.
About a month ago our little neighbor was getting ready to move to assisted living. Ruthie has been a part of Lia’s life since she was born. Lia had to visit Ruthie before she left and took some home baked cookies to her. So Lia grabbed her mask and we ventured across the street, the first time since Covid-19 made it’s ugly appearance.
The last day Ruthie was here, Lia made a card and we took a little goodie box filled with snacks and hand cream to Ruthie to take to her new home. This is the blog Lia wrote about that day. http://themarthareview.com/good-bye-ruthie/
The other day was the first time I was out in a crowd. Papa, mama and I went to watch my cousin play his last T-Ball game. Even though it was outside, I wore my mask and we kept our social distancing.
This is a message from Lia, “Please wear a mask when out in public to help keep the virus from spreading.” “It doesn’t take long to put it on, I can breathe fine when wearing mine and if there is a chance to keep one person from getting the virus it’s worth it! Plus I look cute in it too!”

Martha, I try to stay away from this subject. I wear a mask. In some towns here in New Jersey it is mandated in other’s it’s not. I never go into a store without one on. I DO ASK, THAT PEOPLE BE aware of autistic PEOPLE, AS THEY HAVE SENSORY ISSUES AND ARE TRYING THEIR BEST TO DEAL WITH HAVING A MASK ON. MANY OF THEM HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME WEARING A MASK FOR A LONG TIME. I ASK PEOPLE TO TRY AND KEEP THIS IN MIND.
That’s a very good point Brenda! If someone has a legitimate reason for not wearing a mask I definitely respect that. By us wearing masks, we are helping not spread the virus.

There are so many pros and cons I see about wearing masks Nancy but if there is a slight chance of them helping, Lia, Rich and I will continue to wear them. Thanks for visiting Nancy and stay healthy!
It’s not an idle request! You want the economy to stay open? The restaurants to hit at least 75%? Then do the world a favor (especially folks like me) and wear a mask. It will flatten the curve in 5 to 8 weeks.
I’d love to see the curve flatten Roy! South Carolina is not doing well at all and hopefully more people will start following Lia’s suggestion.
THANK YOU. I live in New York State and we’ve had a mask ordinance in place (all indoors, and outdoors if you can’t keep social distance) for a couple of months now. My brother in law had COVID-19 in April, survived it after a scary three week hospitalization and I will testify that it is not a hoax. He’s still seeing doctors as he must be monitored. Masks are not my idea of fun but I believe it is necessary. I applaud you for training your granddaughter. She, your daughter, and your son in law are also to be applauded. Please everyone learn from New York State’s experience.
So sorry about your brother but pray that he will have a complete recovery. Yes many say it’s a hoax, go to Covid parties only to get the virus. We have been wearing masks before it was even mentioned. Rich has a compromised immune system so if there is a slim chance a mask will help, we’re all for it. Lia is so great wearing hers along with her puppy!
She certainly does look like a cutie patootie in her mask! I agree with you about masks. And I also think we should still be staying home as much as possible. I read an article about some people getting COVID and having it last for months, instead of 14 days. Others apparently got it, but were left with a CFS-like illness after it was over. I have CFS, so I know that is serious business.
We haven’t gone hardly anywhere since March Jeanine. Our granddaughter has been ordering our groceries for curbside pickup, she’s like a mother to us. LOL Going out doesn’t bother us, just watching Lia in the backyard with her garden and baking with her is great for passing the time away. It’s scary not knowing if people have it and don’t have symptoms, that’s why I think a mask is a necessity.
