I’m a Big Girl Now

I have some exciting news to tell you for my Friday Story Time by Lia this week…. I’m a big girl now! For a few months now, mommy and ma kept trying to tell me I was a big girl and to start using the potty but I told them I was afraid. I don’t know why I was afraid but about twelve days ago I decided I was through with diapers! I wanted to be a big girl so I put on my big girl panties and started going on the potty all by myself! Even my puppy goes on the potty!

Last Sunday it had been SEVEN days since I started going on the potty! Mommy said after a week I could go to the store and pick out what I wanted. We went and I picked out some pretty panties and a dress with unicorns and rainbows plus pockets. I even ran the items through the scanner at the register!

I LOVE POCKETS! I was so excited when I got home and tried my new dress on and realized it had two pockets!

I don’t know why I didn’t decide on this before because wearing my new panties is so much more comfortable than a diaper. I don’t even were diapers to bed, once I ditched them they were gone. I keep so busy during the day and I usually don’t have time for a nap so once I fall asleep I sleep until morning and I wake up dry. But the other night I sat up in bed, called ma and said, “I gotta go potty!” I hurried in the bathroom then back in bed and went sound asleep until morning. Mommy, pop and ma are all so proud of me and I’m proud of me too. They don’t even have to remind me, I just go in the bathroom all by myself because I’m a big girl now.

I have sticker boards in the bathroom and after going potty I wash my hands and I add a sticker to the board. Pop also sneaks me an MM candy after I finish up! I’m so excited that I’m a big girl now. Next time mommy says let’s try something new, I’m not going to say I’m afraid, I’m going to give it a try because I’m a big girl now!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Friday Story Time by Lia and are excited for my latest accomplishment. I’ll be 3 years old in August and I’m so glad I will be celebrating my birthday in panties!

Some words from ma…..

Shortly after Lia’s 2nd birthday she started going on the potty but then stopped. For some reason, probably since her mommy was potty trained right around two years old I thought that was the right time. But we realized each child is different and will do things on their own timing. Lia is so advanced in just about everything except potty training. We would occasionally ask Lia if she wanted to go potty and she would tell us no. We decided to just forget about it until she was three since many children aren’t potty trained until then anyways. We were all so excited the first time she went in the bathroom all by herself and a few minutes later called mommy, pop and me into the bathroom. She pointed to her potty and said, “Look what I did all by myself!” Lia’s excitement when she calling us in when she’s finished and adding a sticker to her board is priceless. So my suggestion to anyone trying to get their little ones potty trained is don’t get frustrated and try to make them go on the potty, just let them continue at their own speed and when they feel it’s time they will go. Lia says, “I’m a big girl now and don’t wear diapers.” We are all so proud of how she did this all by herself.

  1. Oh, this is wonderful!! Tell Lia everyone is so proud of her. She *is* a big girl now! And I agree, eventually, they will get tired of it on their own if we just don’t get frustrated with them.

I can’t get over how quick she transitioned from diapers to panties. First day she was set and never looked back at the diapers Jeanine.

Congratulations Lia! You are a big girl now. My son was potty-trained pretty quickly too. He decided one day that these diapers and pull-ups were for the birds. He never looked back.

I love her dress too! I like pockets as well…

Hooray Lia! I agree that for many kids, it’s all in the timing. I have two boys, and they wanted nothing to do with the potty until almost 4 years old. I was always told — “Your child WILL use the potty. There are never kids in Kindergarten who wear diapers!” LOL

LOL Angie, that’s the first thing I said, she has to be potty trained by kindergarten! It was so easy once she put her “big girl panties on” and went in! Lia says thank you!

  4. CONGRATULATIONS, Big Girl, Lia! Sending you a BIG virtual HUG! I am so proud of you, too. Keep up the great work on your potty and stickers. I love your dress so much I want an adult version for myself, and pockets are my favorite, too! Thank you for sharing your success story. Looking forward to hearing more of your growth on Fridays.

Sending lots of love and gratitude,
    Jaime
