I Switched from Plan F to Plan G and Saved
When it comes to Medicare Supplements they can leave you scratching your head and wondering which way to go. There are so many different plans and each have different options from paying less monthly premium but paying more out of pocket for the portion that is not covered under regular Medicare. For 2020, they added a Plan G and grandfathered Plan F to those who already have it. Both hubby and I have been on Plan F because it covers the 20% that is not covered under Medicare A/B. I wasn’t planning on switching until I looked into it more.
THIS ISN’T AN ADVERTISEMENT, IT’S MY TRUE SAVINGS BY SWITCHING FROM MEDICARE PLAN F TO PLAN G!!! I’m saving over $145 in monthly premiums plus zero copay on my prescriptions by switching to Plan G and changing my Plan D!
Back in 2014 just before I was hitting the age of 65 for Medicare, hubby and I went to a seminar about the different plans. Since I had taken the insurance course back in 2009, I already had some ideas but things change yearly and I wanted to make sure I was doing things correctly. This is my blog I wrote about going back to school at 60 years old! http://themarthareview.com/never-too-old-to-learn/
The agent was not only thorough on explaining about the different Medicare Supplement plans but he also wasn’t high pressure like many are. We met with him after the seminar and he set me up with the Plan F (Rich was already on Plan F so I knew that was the one I wanted) and Plan D Prescription Plan for Rich and I.
The plans have served me well but this year they added Plan G and while I’m grandfathered into Plan F, I wanted to see what options I had. I called Clint from the Retirement Resource Group and was pleasantly surprised that Plan G would be a much lower premium than my Plan F. The only difference from Plan F and G is you have to pay the Part B deductible which is $198.00 for 2020 if you chose Plan G.
But with my monthly savings of more than $100.00 (and that’s before the increase that would come in 2020 if I kept my Plan F) it’s well worth it. On top of that, Clint found me another Plan D that saved over $45 a month and my maintenance prescriptions have ZERO copay, saving another $20+ a month! Multiply $165 times 12 and see what I’m saving!!
If you are in North or South Carolina (plus a few other states) and unsure about which plans you are looking into I highly recommend Clint Cascaden http://therrgrp.com/about-us.html. Clint and his group do not high pressure you, they help you find the best solution. We receive Christmas cards, birthday cards and he makes sure the policies are working for us annually and all without calling or trying to sell other products. I am in no way getting compensation for this, I just want to pass on a great company and financial advisor that cares about their clients and does their best to get you the best.
You know; she is absolutely brilliant
Thanks Rich, I just like to pass on great ways for others to save!
Thanks for sharing this—I’ll be looking into it when I apply for medicare.
Thanks for visiting Marcia, good luck when you get to the medicare age!
I’m on plan F. And, I am saving almost $ 400 a year by choosing to start a new Plan F with the same company that insures me now. (Yes, that is nuts. But, it is true.)
That’s a good bit of change Roy! I’ve been on plan 4 for almost 6 years but saving over $100 a month just for switching to G was a no-brainer for me.
This was an interesting post. I know family members who are on medicare. I, on the other hand, do not have any health insurance at all. 🙁
Healthy insurance is so expense Amanda, I wish it was more affordable so everyone could be covered.
