How I Got Started At Blogging
How I Got Started At Blogging
Today is day 2 for the Ultimate Blog Challenge. Every morning I get an email with daily suggestions, sometimes I use them while other times I already have a topic already planned. But today when I read my email, I knew I would use the suggested topic.
The question was “How or why did you get started at blogging?” So here’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
As I started writing, I noticed that some of my blogs weren’t just about reviews so CJ showed me how do add different categories. The cool thing is, when he made any changes, he made sure to show me what he was doing and how to do it. No me being in my 60’s, wasn’t sure I could retain all this knowledge, but I was determined.
Another month passed and grandson saw how my site was growing so he suggested to get my own domain name since I wanted to do give-a-ways and post affiliate links plus it makes a blog look more professional with your own domain name and there are no pop up ads.
So I graduated to www.TheMarthaReview.com where I shared his server space. But since it wasn’t just product reviews, we also updated my header picture with a picture of the ocean. I like that because my motto has always been, “If you want to explore deeper oceans, you first have to leave sight of the shore”. This is so true about many things in life and it is so meaningful. Now it was April 2016 and I was ready for another move. My grandson helped with the move to Host Gator where I now had my own server.
In less than two years I went from no blog to a blog with my own domain and shared server to one with my own server. I’m so happy that I started blogging, or should I say my grandson set up and started me blogging.
My suggestion to anyone that is interested in starting a blog, JUST DO IT!!
What a great story! I love to hear how others got started blogging. Your grandson is such a great guy to get you started and guide you along the way! Best of luck to you!
Thanks Jennifer! I am so proud of all he does and he’s GREAT at everything!! He’s the one that just married the sweetest young lady, I love them both so much! Can you tell this gramma loves to brag? LOL Thanks for stopping by.
Saw your post on the October Challenge on Facebook. I did just what you said – I wanted to start a blog for six years, but only recently gathered up the courage to do so.
I consider myself the “New Kid on the Blog”
When you get a moment check out my post – Memoirs of a New Blogger – the first month (http://www.mauvewriter.com/memoirs-new-blogger/). I am still learning a lot, but having fun writing.
What a great blog you have! I checked it out and subscribed so I won’t miss any of your posts. For only having your blog for a month, it’s terrific. Keep on growing!! Thanks for stopping by.
Really nice story about how you grew your blog. You started much later than I did but I still don’t know how to do my own domain name and own server. It’s all good, though. This blogging challenge has gotten me so many more readers, including you. Thank you for visiting https://alicesgrandadventures.blogspot.com I hope that you’ve been having a good weekend!
I just jumped in and said I’ll either sink or swim Alice! LOL I like to continue learning and I’m always finding new things or new ways to do things. I’m enjoying your blogs! Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Martha, Great story. Will the next step be adding security to your hostgator account?
Thanks Doug, I’m enjoying learning as I go. I do have some securities set up, maybe I need more? I’ll look into that. Thanks for stopping by.
Martha, this is an awesome post. I’d love to quote it. I’m writing a book “Because of Blogging,” which I hope to finish one day soon. It’s about the various stories that caused people to blog, and what has happened in their lives because of blogging.
Thank you so much for the complements Marsha! I’d be honored to have you quote it and make sure you let me know when you book is published! Tha KS for visiting.
