Garden Day with Lia

Are you ready for another Friday Story Time by Lia? I woke up early and Pop was already outside so I hurried and got my garden clothes and boots on and I went to find out what we were going to do today! Come with me on my garden day with Lia!

Welcome to my garden! When Pop started my Reflection garden about two years ago, he found this old rake buried under the dirt. We decided to hang it on the fence above my garden and added the Welcome sign with the butterfly!

This morning I grabbed my gardening bag, pulled out my gloves and started my gardening. We went to Lowes and Home Depot the other day and I had so much to do.

I had already planted the squash and peppers and they are growing great. But I decided to plant some sweet potatoes today! First I dug holes to put the plants in, I refilled it with the soil, patted it down and when all done, I watered them. We’ve never planted potatoes so I’m excited to see if they grow!

Ma has been looking for eggplant but the garden centers didn’t have any… until the other day! She was so happy to finally find eggplant this season. So I planted those near the squash and peppers and now wait for some vegetables! This is my vegetable garden, I have strawberries, lettuce for Pop, brocolli, eggplant, summer squash and peppers.

I planted my blueberry bush a week or so ago and I alread have baby blueberries! I hope I get enough to make blueberry muffins!!

Back to my Reflection garden, Pop also found an old rusty shovel buried in the dirt when he started my garden two years ago. It didn’t look like anything we could use until Ma came up with the idea to turn it into a Golden Shovel. Pop painted it gold and Ma decided to add my name and date. But then mommy decided to add my footprints and turn them into a butterfly! I love my Golden Shovel and this is a blog about how it changed from a rusty shovel to a golden shovel. http://themarthareview.com/my-golden-shovel/ After people visited my golden shovel blog, some suggested ma should write a poem about it and that’s just what she did, she wrote An Old Rusty Shovel Poem!

Do you see the old bench? Ma saw a man at the recycling center getting ready to through it out so she asked if we could have it! She does stuff like that, takes old things that might be junk to someone but a treasure to someone else. Pop and I painted it, added some pink and it’s perfect for my garden. This is a three part blog about my relection garden. http://themarthareview.com/lias-reflection-garden-chapter-3/

Back to my garden today, I added two hanging pots of flowers and used yellow and pink because those are my favorite colors.

I have so many rose bushes in my garden and they are all started to bloom! Now I have to get back to watering my plants! I hope you had fun visiting with me on my garden day with Lia! See you next week for another Friday Story Time by Lia.

  5. Lia, you are inspiring me with your veggies and fruits. I want to work edible plants into my garden. Phoenix gets really really hot in the summer, so I need to find heat-tolerant plants. This year might be for planning, then planting the actual plants in October. With the sweet potatoes– they sometimes become huge long gorgeous vines! And you can eat the blossoms. So I’ll look for your reports as the garden starts to grow more. Great job!
