Flavored Coconut Sugar Scrub

Flavored Coconut Sugar Scrub

Coconut Oil is such a wonderful natural product that can be used in many different ways.   For protecting your skin, Coconut Oil is a natural sunscreen, a super face cream and great as an overnight treatment.  It is the ultimate food of you skin!  Coconut Oil is available in a liquid or solid form. The one thing I love to make is Flavored Coconut Sugar Scrub.  It’s not only a healthy scrub but it smells delicious!

There are many “recipes” for sugar scrub and I have made it a few different ways.  I use the solid form of Coconut Oil and one way is to just take a scoop of the oil and add sugar or baking soda and mix together well.

But my favorite way to make a sugar scrub is to melt the Coconut Oil, add sugar and then add my favorite essential oils to the mixture.  Some people add food coloring to make it more colorful, but I just add the oil.

This is my recipe for my Flavored Coconut Sugar Scrub:

Melt 1/4 cup of Coconut Oil in the microwave for about 45 seconds

Mix in 3/4 cup of granulated white sugar to the melted oil. (If the mixture is too watery, add a small amount of sugar)

Add 20 – 30 drops of Essential Oils (My favorites are Lemon and Orange)

Store the Coconut Scrub in an air-tight container

I apply the scrub to my face and neck nightly, massage it in and rinse off with warm water.  You will feel your skin tingle while it moisturizes plus the scrub has a great smell.

Word of caution when using Coconut Oil…..                                                                                                                         DO NOT POUR COCONUT OIL DOWN THE SINK AS IT WILL CAUSE THE DRAINS TO PLUG UP.

I order the large 54 oz.jar of organic, virgin, cold-pressed Island Pure Coconut Oil as it can be used in so many different applications.

These are a few of the Essential Oils I use, they are large 4 oz bottles and they also come with droppers.

This Sugar Scrub makes great gifts too.  Get a small jar (a baby food jar is perfect), add the sugar scrub mixture, attached a label and add a ribbon around the jar for a beautiful gift.

If you try my easy to make, healthy for you skin Sugar Scrub, please let me know how you like it.

I have all the ingredients to try and make this. About how long do you think it will last before having to throw it out? As I think this can be a homemade Christmas gift. I plan on using lavender essential oil.

I also like to make this with lavender Sandy! It’s fun to experiment with different flavors of essential oils. But even if you don’t have oils, it’s great with just the coconut, it smells so delicious! When I make mine, it’s usually gone in a few months so I would say shelf life is at least 2 months, and could go up to 6 months or more without the essential oils. Let me know when you make it and what you think!

  2. Hmm. I’ll stick with Ivory Soap. No smell and clean hands and face.
    Sounds perfect to me.

I remember when I was young, I broke out using Ivory Soap, been afraid to use it every since. I like experimenting with essential oils and making cool recipes from them. Thanks for visiting Roy!
