Eye Appealing Feature Photos
Way back in 2016 before I really knew much about blogging, I was mainly doing product reviews. I wrote a blog about eye appealing photos in my blog to get my readers interest. Looking back at the photos, they aren’t bad but I have gone so far in my photographs since six years ago! I don’t have a fancy camera, just my Google Pixel 3 XL phone. Today I’m sharing how eye appealing FEATURE photos can spark interest in more people seeing your blog post and in turn you can get more traffic.
The one thing I don’t like to is take posed photos. I like candid and action shots. When taking a close up I use the portrait mode on my phone and it blurs the background so the subject stands out more. These are some photos I’ve used in my past blogs.
But what about feature photos? I do the same, try to find a photo with eye appeal so when anyone is scrolling through it might catch their eye more than just the blog title. This was the feature photo when I posted my step by step smoothie recipe. Does it make you want to check out my recipe?
When I posted about our visit to the Huntington Beach, SC state park Jetty for Wordless Wednesday I thought this picture of my granddaughter and great granddaughter walking the jetty was perfect for the feature photo.
When posting about baking or cooking, I add a photo of what we are making and of course if Lia is helping me or it’s her blog, she get’s in her smile! This is a blog Lia wrote about the first eggplant from my garden! I thought the feature photo was perfect and the eggplant was delicious!
Four times a year I participate in the Ultimate Blog Challenge. One of the guidelines is to visit and comment on the two blogs before ours. I always make sure to read those first and then continue on to check out the others. Sometimes I don’t get to them all until later in the day or evening but I share the love and comment on as many as I can.
The other day I was scrolling through the blog posts on the challenge and I used my own advice! I saw a delicious looking photo of bread and because of that photo I read Amy’s blog post! Once reading it, the recipe sounded so delicious and easy to make! This is the post, check out her twisted bread with rosemary garlic butter! Does this photo make you want to find out more? https://vomitingchicken.com/make-swiss-twisted-bread…/ Thank you Amy for this delicious recipe, Lia and I will definitely be making this soon!
See something as simple as an eye appealing feature photo can increase traffic to your blog!
I can’t believe how tall Lia is!! Looks like she is almost to Alex’s shoulder. And I always love your pictures, so it’s great to read about the way you take them. Now, I want to figure out how to use the portrait feature on my phone, if I have one.
Lia is growing like a weed Jeanine! I’m sure she will pass Alex soon! LOL Not sure what phone you have be mine pops up as soon as I open the camera. Look in your camera settings, I love how the photos look.
Aww, Martha, thanks so much for the share! I hope you try the recipe!
You’re so right, that a good photo can really attract attention! I love the photos of your grandies. They make me smile!
We will definitely make this Amy! Also you may see extra comments, readers that saw my post are now going to yours. That’s what I love abou blogging, share it one place and you never know where it will go!
Martha, I love your photos and you just reenforced to me why the photo is so important. Love your photos and yes the smoothie made me curious to find out more.
I’m glad it helped you see how important a good feature photo is Deb. BTW, that smoothie was delicious!
These are very cool pictures! I need to work on my personal pictures more myself! Lia is a great subject!
Have a happy day!
Thanks Deominique, with Lia I can always get an interesting picture!
Yes a good feature photo can be very helpful to stop the scroll!Love the pics and going over to read the recipe.
Yes Amrita, there are times when I’ll be scrolling FB and the picture catches my eye before I even read the post! Lia and I are going to make this tasty looking bread!
A picture is definitely worth more than a thousand words!
Yes, the smoothie picture sparked my interest. It was the sprinkles, actually 😉
Thank you for being such a loyal UBC buddy, I appreciate your visits – and I enjoy following your and Lia’s adventures. Let’s not forget cute Snowball!
My granddaughter found the sprinkles at Big Lots Tamara! I like to add a few especially when doing a photo shot! I love the UBC and enjoy your blogs!
I really enjoy your blog, Martha. You’re so right about the pictures. They drew me in and then I had to read more! Love hearing about your adventures with Lia.
As the saying goes Victoria a picture can be worth a thousand words. Thanks for visiting Lia’s and my escapades!
Love those photos! Keep ’em comin’!
Thanks Roy, I’ve got many more!
Martha, you know I love your photos! I have the same philosophy about feature photos as you do. So important. I have friends who love to travel and take photos in distant places. Sometimes, I ask them for permission to use the photos (like on my post for today) and then create a quote poster out of it. Thanks for another great post!
I so enjoy your photos and quotes too Kebba! Photos can tell a story.
Great photos. 🙂
Thanks Amanda!
