Delicious Trail Mix Recipe

I love trail mix and since I’ve been on my healthy eating plan, I make my own by adding delicious dried fruits and nuts. The neat thing about making my own trail mix, I can add just about any type of nuts, dried fruit, yogurt pieces and even coconut.

I purchase my ingredients at Fresh Market because I can get such a wide variety of organic products. I don’t usually measure but for this recipe I did for those that might want to try making their own.

Trail Mix Ingredients

2 cups unsalted whole cashews

1 cup peanuts

3/4 cup whole almonds

1/2 cup slivered almonds

1 cup dried mixed berries

Optional – handful of organic coconut

Mixing Together

I start by adding all the different nuts in a bowl, cover it and gently swirl around to mix them up.

Next I add the dried fruit, mixing them in with the nuts.

I love coconut and after the nuts and fruit are mixed together, I toss in a handful of coconut. Once that is added, the coconut sticks to the dried fruit for a yummy flavor.

Beneficial Nutrients

“Nuts are packed with beneficial nutrients, like magnesium and folate, and they’re also high in dietary fiber. Although they’re high in calories and fat, nuts can be a welcome addition to your health-conscious diet. They’re naturally low in saturated fat — unhealthy fat that’s linked to heart disease — and high in unsaturated fat, which is good for your cardiovascular health. Some nuts also offer a significant amount of protein, which supports strong muscle tissue and helps with tissue growth and repair.”

this looks perfect:) and nuts are among our favorite snacks to munch on, especially on road trips when hunger can strike at odd times on the road with not a restaurant or fast food or stop in sight..

Oh yes Vidya, this is great for a road trip! I store them in zippered baggies so it stays fresh and also doesn’t take up much room. Also, it’s healthy!

I just started added the dried fruit Abraham and LOVE the extra flavor! It’s so much better than raisins that are in the store bought, in my opinion. Thanks for visiting!
