D is For Dance!

D is For Dance!

I was chatting with my grandson while working on my A to Z Blog Challenge and I mentioned I was going to be working on the letter “D”. When I told him I didn’t have a topic yet, he said, “D is For Dance!”   So that’s how I got my letter for the day.

There are many different styles of dance from slow dancing as in the waltz which is like a smooth ball room dance,  fast dancing as in the tango or the twist back from the 50’s, and we can’t forget the polka.  There is line dancing which is done to the beat to country music  with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in lines or rows without having specific partners and square dancing has four couples following prompts through a variety of steps by a caller to the beat of music.

Many people enter dance competitions and in the south, a popular dance is the Shag.  The ‘Carolina Shag’ is a partner dance done primarily to Beach Music with 100 to 130 plus beats per minute.  The Shag is a recognized dance in national and international dance competitions held across the United States with a range of ages from adults to small children.

Another dance I love to watch is Clogging. It’s a folk dancing style where the dancers strike their heels and toes of their shoes to the floor. It’s similar to tap dancing but they really get moving.

There are many special dances, the junior prom, the senior ball, when a father dances with his daughter at her wedding and a big thing now is father/daughter dances at schools and churches. I love to see my the little girls of my friends all dressed up and ready for their first dance with daddy.

So many different kinds of dancing but the best dance I love is to see is when a baby starts to dance when they hear music. This is one of my grandduaghter’s when she was about a year old, dancing to music playing, I love her expression!  So many types of dances that can be done with a partner, as a group, or just dancing alone when you listen to music.

I hope you are enjoying my alphabet blog for the A to Z April Blog Challenge  The challenge is to write a blog starting with the first letter of the alphabet on day one and continue through the month every day except Sunday. Yesterday my blog was C is for Coupons where I wrote about my coupon saving techniques. There are just the right number of letters as the number of days in the month.  So tomorrow I will blog about the next letter.  See you tomorrow!
