Craft Memory Shirt

It was Christmas of 2018, Lia was 4 months old and her mommy started doing craft projects with her. Her first project was making Christmas ornaments as gifts. Of course mommy did most of the work on these beautiful ornaments.

For Mother’s & Father’s Day 2019 mommy helped Lia make special paintings for me and GG papa. Then secretly I help Lia make mommy a bouquet of painted flowers. Lia loves being creative at her young age and with all these projects we would put an old apron or towel around her.

We realized Lia was well into loving to do craft projects and she needed a craft smock for all her projects especially since she was doing a lot of the painting herself now. So I made a trip upstairs and looked through my stash of things I save to see what would work. BINGO!!! I had purchased some t-shirts years ago when Alexandra was younger to decorate and I still had a pile of new shirts! Problem is the smallest size I had was a child size 10, Lia was in infant size 12 months. But wait, she will grow into it and we can turn it into a craft memory shirt!

We picked a pink shirt, grabbed our fabric markers and wrote her name on the back of the t-shirt. When it was time to decorate pumpkins for Halloween 2019 Lia wore her craft shirt for the first time.

She made hand prints on pumpkins that were done in purple paint so now the pink shirt had purple splatters on the front.

The next project was when Lia and I made Christmas ornaments from her handprint and turned them into a Santa Claus face! She put her craft shirt on again and this time white paint was added to shirt. When we pull Lia’s craft shirt and paint out, Lia gets so excited because she knows she will be making something fun! This is Lia blog about the ornaments she made to surprise mommy and daddy and her grandma and grandpa. http://themarthareview.com/santa-handprint-ornaments/

Lia’s craft shirt has a good start to becoming a one of a kind design with the purple and white paint added so far. I’ve started writing the dates of her projects on the back and since it’s size 10, it will probably last through out her young craft years. When she retires the shirt I have a few ideas, I can turn it into a memory pillow or stretch the shirt on a frame. Either way it will have many colors and designs from all the projects that she will be doing in the next 8 or so years plus have a pillow made from her craft memory shirt!

There is so much joy watching a very young child as they discover their creative talents. Thank you for the pictures, it will be fun to see how all this develops.

Awww! I love your idea of a craft memory shirt! I’ve found throughout the years that those little trinkets the kids made fall apart, get lost, or simply get destroyed. This will be a way to remember that can even be used to make a t-shirt memory quilt later in life!
