Cardboard Box Projects

Can you believe it is already October 25th, only two months until Christmas! If you add 2+5, you got 7. The suggested blog topic today is about 7 ideas. So I figured what better of a time to share 7 of my cardboard box projects! I love thinking outside the box and that’s exactly what I did with these projects.

1- Computer Stand Storage

After I put my computer stand together (made from a keyboard stand) I realized I needed some storage. I had added a shelf but wanted something for the paperwork I used daily. So I came up with the idea to build a storage unit from a cardboard box! http://themarthareview.com/added-storage-to-my-laptop-stand/

2 – Utensil Holder

Since I’m always looking for ways to save space I came up with another cardboard box project for my cooking and baking utensils. I’m short on drawer space so by moving all these out of a drawer, I had more room to re-organize. I had the top of a box saved because it was interesting with the six round openings. Not knowing what I would do with it, I had a feeling I would come up with a plan. I was waiting to find a box the same size for the bottom but since that didn’t happen I re-sized one to fit. My utensil holder looks great on the counter or in the cupboard! http://themarthareview.com/kitchen-utensil-organizer/

3 – Essential Oil Storage Box

When storing small bottles, it’s hard to keep them all coraled on just a shelf. I came up with a simple solution by cutting the flaps off a box, spray painted it and now when it sits on the shelf, the bottles stay put. http://themarthareview.com/reorganizing-in-progess/

4 – Divided Storage Box

When we had our shop, one of the neighbor’s had a liquor store. Needless to say they had lots of empty boxes that had dividers in them. At the time I didn’t have a plan but they would always ask if I wanted them before they went in the dumpster. It didn’t take me long to come up with a plan! I cut the flaps off and spray painted the outside of the box white. There are twelve individual sections and I converted it into storage for my paper, foil, etc. that comes on tubes. The other sections I use for ziplock bags, and my silicone baking sheets. The box slides in my cupboard perfectly and I can pull it out like a drawer to get the the things in the back!

5 – Wrap Gift Cards in Cardboard

Okay so I mentioned it’s 2 months until Christmas so I thought I would share this cool way to wrap gift cards in cardboard! It’s not a box but an empty paper towel or waxpaper tube! People like to give gift cards but let’s be creative with the wrapping! Just cut the tube the desired length, roll up the gift card if printed out and wrap in your favorite gift wrap and ribbons! You can also just add a variety of stickers to the tube instead of using gift wrap. If you have purchased a plastic gift card, you can wrap that in a small box, put in a larger box filled with tissue paper and watch the fun when the person opens the box! http://themarthareview.com/creative-way-to-wrap-gift-cards/

6 – Cookbook Organizer

Do you store cookbooks in the cupboard over your oven? I do and they would always fall over and get all disorganized. So I took a cardboard box, cut off the flaps, spray painted it white and it fit perfectly on it’s side. Now even if the cookbooks tend to fall over a bit, they can’t get outside the box! This is my blog that shows the steps, it’s half way down. http://themarthareview.com/kitchen-re-organization/

7 – Cardboard Train

You didn’t think I could get through my list of 7 cardboard items without something for Lia did you? Way back when Lia’s mommy was tiny, we made her a train from cardboard boxes. Lia loves playing with the boxes we save and today she pulled a few out. When she put her teddy bear in one, the memory of Alexandra came back! So I found some old ribbon, pushed in the flaps and made Lia a cardboard train. I pulled Lia around and she loved it!

Check out Lia pulling the train with one hand. She then sets down her cookie and started pulling with two hands. Too cute!!

When Lia got out, she put her bear in the train and started pulling it around. It was then that I had an idea! She had a smaller box and I attached that to have a longer train! Now Lia had a train section for her bear and another for her doll! I love being creative but especially with things like this. Lia has more fun with empty boxes than with her toys!

When I read the suggested topic, I also played the number game. As Paul mentions 2+5=7. We have 2 children, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Where does the 5 come in? Alexandra is our 5th grandchild and Lia is our 5th great grandchild! Hope you enjoyed my 7 ideas with cardboard box projects.

I think I like the train the most 🙂

Some great ideas for other storage units “things” here – the Divided Storage Box is a great idea – we just lay them at the bottom of a drawer and I have to go through many of them to find the one I want!

    Thanks!

  2. The cardboard train was my first idea. A movie theater was the second.
