An Old Rusty Shovel Poem

This is an old rusty shovel poem I wrote about how it was turned into a beautiful golden shovel for Lia’s garden.

An old rusty shovel buried in the ground.

When creating a garden that’s where it was found.

Lia’s beautiful garden was created with love.

As she helped plant the flowers my mom was watching from above.

But the old rusty shovel needs to be a part

Of Lia’s Reflection Garden that was created from the heart.

The shovel was painted a super shiny gold with a butterfly created with Lia’s tiny feet.

Adding a name, date and hearts to the beautiful golden shovel is so sweet.

The old rusty shovel that was buried in the ground

Is now a Golden Shovel and in Lia’s garden it can be found.

This past July Lia wrote a blog about her Golden Shovel and many of my viewers said they could see a poem written about the golden shovel. I write poems now and then and now was the time to write one about an old rusty shovel that was turned into a beautiful golden shovel for Lia’s garden. This is another blog I wrote about how Lia’s garden was started and how it grew into a beautiful little spot in our back yard for Lia’s Reflections Garden. This blog has three chapters in one. We all had such a wonderful time working on Lia’s garden and it’s a treasured corner for sure.

  2. How lovely Martha! Poem, Garden and Lia!

  3. Lia has such a neat garden! And that was beautiful work on the shovel. I know she feels so loved, with all the ways you and your family honor her.

  4. Great poem- and great photos of Lia.

  5. What a lovely garden and a lovely poem! It’s very sweet!

  6. Martha, wow! Love the garden. Love the poem. Love the golden shovel. We have a small yard that I have gradually turned into a lovely oasis, a Feng Shui Garden. I started with flat beds and have gradually lifted them, lifting the energy, using stacking blocks. Then I filled in with potting soil and either set pots in or planted flowers directly in that fresh soil. What a truly lovely garden you and Lia have there.

Your Feng Shui Garden sound so relaxing and beautiful Kebba. The corner where Lia’s garden is was just a corner of weeds before the garden was born!

I like the garden and the Golden Shovel in Lia’s REflection Garden. I hope you have a very special “scrapbook” that you are filling with photos of this which you can hand to her when she is all grown up and starting a family of her own. If will be filled with so many wonderful memories of her journey. Don’t just leave them on the computer “for Later” two weeks ago my personal computer crashed and so far we have not been able to recover all the pictures of building the farm from just a field of weeds to a finished house and chicken yard and garden. We hope to recover them but the chances are slim. So make a special book just for her.

My thought was to make a book of all Lia’s stories and pictures then give it to her when she turns 18 years old Chef William. But I’m working on saving and printing everything up and storing in maybe a 3 ring binder so I can add “chapters” as Lia and I write them. I think her scrapbook may turn into a few scrapbooks! Oh no, sorry to hear about your computer crash, that is deastating!

This is so delightful. I could see a whole series of stories based on this. Lia and her magic shovel. And illustrated. It would be great!!!
