A to Z Food Challenge – T

It’s TACO TUESDAY for the A to Z Food Challenge – T! Oh wait, it’s not Tuesday, it’s Sunday! Oh well, you can still eat a Taco!

I’m not hooked on Tacos but my granddaughter loves them. She will either stop at Taco Bell for one or better than that, she will make her own.

Alexandra starts by browning ground beef, peppers and onions. She adds some cooked rice and shredded cheese to the tortilla, add the meat mixture and tops with Salsa and sour cream.

Folding her taco is like covering a baby with a blanket! She carefully folds the bottom up then folds each side towards the center. Look at Alexandra’s delicious taco!

For me I’ve chosen Tomato soup! This brings back memories when I was younger. My grandmother would make “bags of gold” and drop them in the tomato soup. These are made by taking chunks of cheese, wrapping biscuit dough around it and dropping in the tomato soup. As the soup cooks, so does the biscuit and the cheese melts. The delicious part is when you cut into the biscuit the cheese will ooze out in the tomato soup and what a meal! Another way I like to prepare tomato soup is adding shredded cheese to the top of the bowl, microwave it until the cheese melts. Something about tomato soup and cheese, they go so well together.

Fresh Tomatoes are the best! Last year just before Lia was a year old she went out to the garden with GGpapa and picked some ripe tomatoes. I like to slice them and put them in a sandwich, a salad or eat them plain.

Tuna, we can’t forget T for Tuna! This is one of my healthy meals. I put tuna on a bed of lettuce with hard boiled eggs and watermelon. Light meal but delicious!

When we went to the Casino in Cherokee a while back, there was a sandwich shop called Earl of Sandwich. They have the best tuna sandwich made with albacore white tuna and swiss cheese. But it’s how they put it together I think is why it tastes so good. First they put the tuna on both sides of the homemade bread, then cheese on top of both sides. It goes in the oven and slowly makes its way to the other end. When it comes out the cheese is melted, the bread is browned and the sandwich is the best restaurant tuna sandwich I’ve ever had.

I can’t forget Tom the Turkey which is not just for a Thanksgiving meal but I cook up a turkey quite often because it’s so good. The turkey on the left received a pardon and he’s happily strutting around the woods in the Great Smoky Mountains National Forest.

One reason I like turkey is because of the leftovers. I can stretch a turkey from after the meal into sandwiches, both hot or cold, add some turkey to soup or make a turkey pot pie! Here’s my recipe, it was the first time I made a turkey pot pie! http://themarthareview.com/turkey-pot-pie-recipe/

Do any of my A to Z Food Challenge – T meals on the menu make you hungry? What else would you prepare with a food starting with the letter T?

Wow, you just about covered everything. Do you know the importance of the Earl of Sandwich? Back in the days of knights and such, there was an Earl by the name of Sandwich that loved to gamble. He did not want to stop to eat but when he would eat his hands would get messy and it would transfer to the cards they were playing. One day he told his chef “Just bring the meat between two slices of bread so I can eat and not mess up the cards” That was the birth of the Sandwich. It is named after a real person – and that is our history lesson for today.

OMG I never knew that about Earl of Sandwich! Is that why I can only find them in casinos Chef William? LOL But they do make an awesome tuna sandwich!
