A to Z Food Challenge – J

Today is A to Z Food Challenge – J. I’m keeping it easy today instead of going with Jambalaya which is a spicy Creole dish of ham, rice, meat, seafood, or sausage cooked with tomatoes, onions, peppers, and celery. Or I could have mentioned Jaffa cake which is a sponge biscuit with an orange-flavored jelly and chocolate topping. But I’m not going to tell you about them. Instead I’m going for Jam and Jelly!

I love a simple jam or jelly sandwich covering peanut butter! I don’t have one favorite flavor, I have three!! For jam I love raspberry and strawberry. For jelly it’s gotta be grape! When I was growing up, we lived next to a large field filled with wild strawberries. If you haven’t had a wild strawberry, they are much smaller than cultivated ones and oh so sweet! Every morning I would go out in the field and pick a few buckets of strawberries and my grandmother would make the most delicious strawberry jam. Same thing with our grapes, she would make yummy grape jelly! So we were never without Jam or Jelly!

This is a jam/sauce that I make to top my salmon. It gives the salmon such a sweet taste! It’s so delicious but I found something out after I had some leftover from my salmon.

It makes a delicious milkshake or ice cream topping! If you like cheesecake, it’s great drizzled over that too! This is how I made this topping for salmon or dessert! http://themarthareview.com/super-delicious-salmon-sauce/

Maybe you aren’t a Jam or Jelly lover so how about some Jello? Jello is so easy to make, just add the jello mix into boiling water. You can even add fresh fruit into the mixture after it’s finished boiling and ready for the fridge. The hardest part about making jello is waiting a few hours for the jello to harden! But today they have little Jello cups that are ready to eat! No waiting for it to cool and harden. The little Jello cups are also good when traveling or for school lunches. Lia and papa love jello and of course I have to top it with a little whipped cream.

Do you have a jam or jelly favorite? Is you Jello favorite the same as your favorite jelly? Time to go grab a jelly sandwich! Thanks for visiting the A to Z Food Challenge – J.

I detest PB & J sandwiches together. I like PB or Grape Jelly by themselves. As for Jello Grape please but I like other flavors to. Just no Fruit or Whipped Topping. What can I say other than I am picky…

  2. You are so right – it’s gotta be grape jelly all the way! But I have never thought of putting jelly on anything but toast or biscuits. Hmm, I may need to explore other ways to use it a topping.

My favorite is strawberry. Although, I loved making apple butter with my grandmother.
