A BEAUTIFUL PLATE

A BEAUTIFUL PLATE

As we get older it’s sometimes hard to remember things that happened years ago. Gosh, there are times I can’t even remember what happened a week ago but the one thing that I will always remember is July 29, 1967 when I married my love.  Yes, it’s been 51 years since we got married and our love grows stronger every day.  This is a blog about a beautiful plate we received.

Last year was our Golden Anniversary and we went back home, 1000 miles away, to celebrate our anniversary in the beautiful St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church where we were married on July 29, 1967.   https://themarthareview.com/beautiful-50th-wedding-anniversary-ceremony/     It’s hard to believe a year has gone by and Rich and I are celebrating another wonderful year.

But today I’m going back to last Christmas when my sister who lives in Maine came to South Carolina to visit.  Rich and I had a great afternoon with two of our grandchildren, their sweethearts and Nancy.  She hadn’t seen Alexandra and Zachary in many years so it was a reunion as well.  It came time for Nancy to get ready to leave when she ran out to her car.  She came back with something I will cherish forever.

My parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 16, 1993 and I still have memories of Rich and I flying down with our oldest daughter, her hubby and three of our grandchildren from New York to South Carolina to surprise mom and dad at their celebration.   The look on their face when everyone entered the room was priceless.  So when Nancy came back in with the 50th Anniversary Plate that mom and dad had received at their anniversary, I probably had the same look on my face.  It is such a beautiful plate and I could feel mom and dad’s presence in the room.  Rich and I have the plate sitting where we can see it everyday and know the love and memories that it holds.  I plan to hold on to it until I can pass it down to a family member to hold until it can be presented to possibly one of our grandchildren on their 50th wedding anniversary.  Since we probably won’t be here to see the plate being passed down in another 50 years, I hope whoever receives it has the same feelings as Rich and I did when we received the 50th anniversary plate handed down from my parents through my sister.

Our wedding day started out raining but by the time 2:00 PM arrived, my dad helped me out of the car at the church with the sun shining.  Rich and I have so many memories from the past 51 years of marriage with our 2 children, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren with the 5th on the way in a few weeks.

This is a little love poem I wrote last year for our 50th wedding anniversary.   https://themarthareview.com/happy-golden-anniversary-my-love/

So just for laughs, I tried on my wedding gown and it still fits 51 years later although it’s a tad snug.  My grandmother made it and put a lot of love in every stitch.  How I remember her making satin loops for the tiny buttons on the sleeves.  So many memories when I bring out my wedding gown.

True love doesn’t happen for everyone but it did for Rich and me.  This is our story that started back on a blind date Christmas Day, December 25, 1965.  http://themarthareview.com/true-love-is-forever-strong/

Thanks Brenda, the memories just keep coming! I think my favorite memory from today is when my granddaughter sent a FB message saying, “51st this year, and still forever my model marriage 😂❤️ i wanna set the same example for Lia, that y’all set for me 💪🏻💒👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 love you both! 💕”

  2. What a lovely gesture! It is a beautiful dish and even more beautiful because of the memories it holds for you both.

That is so true Amy, each day is it’s own gift and gosh do we have many. I’m going to wrote a letter with the plate telling who and when first received it and then us so whoever is the lucky one to carry it next can have the same memories. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks Wendy, I was so excited when my sister gave Rich and I this plate for our 50th anniversary. I know my mom and dad were smiling down from heaven. I’m enjoying my new healthy eating plan, I’ll get my latest lab work next Monday to see if it has helped with my liver problems. Thanks for stopping by.
