1 1/2 Years Later…..
In July 2018 I changed and it’s now 1 1/2 years later! A little history….Since 2009 I was having pain and bloating when I ate. It took hours for my food to get to my stomach to relieve the pain but I always attributed to my stomach value which wasn’t opening and closing properly. In July 2018 I was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease plus gall stones but instead of taking prescription meds, after reading up on it, I decided to change my diet. This is one of my blogs I wrote about it. http://themarthareview.com/fatty-liver-disease/
After my diagosis I changed what I ate, I didn’t call it a diet, it was my healthy eating plan. The first thing to go was sugar! That included my gigantic cup of McD’s sweet tea that I would pick up on the way to our shop every day! I realized I was drinking a cup full of sugar! I switched to drinking water and added fresh or frozen berries to give it flavor, herbal tea and fruit smoothies. I’m happy to say I haven’t have a sweet tea since July 2018 and I don’t even miss it! I also cut way down on sugary desserts plus white potatoes, rice and bread. I took everything in stride and since I love a challenge I knew I could do this! http://themarthareview.com/beverage-of-choice/
The one think I didn’t think about was weight loss since that wasn’t a priority of mine. However I slowly began losing pounds. When I went back for my 6 month check up, I had lost about 22 pounds and 3″ in my waist. My lab work showed my liver function test was back to normal and the pain that I had in my stomach was gone also since the gall stones had disappeared! http://themarthareview.com/six-month-healthy-eating-update/
I’ve continued on my healthy eating plan, I enjoy finding new and delicious recipes that fit in my plan. I have even found some delicious desserts such as a recipe for homemade Almond Joy Bars, Avocado Chocolate Cookies and I love making homemade trail mix!
For the past 1 1/2 years I have continued my challenge of finding healthy and delicious foods that not only keep my liver in check by my entire body! By nine months I dropped 24 pounds and 4″ in my waist. http://themarthareview.com/nine-month-healthy-eating-update/
These are some of my quick and easy breakfast meals http://themarthareview.com/quick-healthy-breakfasts/
I’m heading for 71 years old in a few months but I’m not slowing down on life or my healthy eating plan! I feel so much better on the inside after making my eating change and plan on sticking to this new healthy eating lifestyle This is my one year healthy eating update, looking forward to my two year update in July 2020! http://themarthareview.com/one-year-healthy-eating-plan-update/
Girl, you look absolutely fabulous at 70! Wow! I want to be like you when I reach that age! I finally took control of my health during the summer last year…cutting out sugar and a lot of carbs from my diet. Plus I added exercise back into my daily routine. I have NEVER felt better being in my 50s! I released 75 lbs over a six-month period. I’m afraid if I had continued living an unhealthy lifestyle, there is no telling what could have gone wrong. I’ve always been a sugar addict, but I also know it’s toxic to your body. When you live clean of toxins, you feel better physically and mentally…at least that’s how it works for me. I’m such a nut freak and will eat small amounts throughout my day…I love the crunch! I’d rather crunch on nuts than a big bag of chips! LOL
WOW 75 pounds in 6 months, congratulations that’s terrific Aletha! I never realized how much sugar I was taking in until I stopped! Like you, I feel so healthy both the inside and outside and if it wasn’t for my doctor finding hour about my liver, I don’t know where I would be in a few years. But glad you and I got on the right path and on to betting eating AND living! We seem so much alike, I’m a nut freak also plus they are healthier than chips! The one thing I can’t seem to add is exercise! I mean I am super busy, walk alot and always bending and stretching while working over our 60″ wide worktable but I can’t seem to get in a daily routine. Maybe I’ll start now since you have added that! Thanks for visiting and keep me posted on your healthy lifestyle.
Good for you! I need to make some changes to my diet as well, but it is hard to know where to start. I started going to Weight Watchers again. I have to put in the work. You inspire me.
Start with baby steps Elisa, I would suggest cutting way back on sugar as the first thing. I just researched foods to see what was low in sugar and carbs but high in protein. I didn’t follow a “diet plan” but worked out great for me. If you need any help on what’s good or bad, let me know!! Thanks for visiting Elisa.
I need to develop a new plan for myself. Not because of pain, but because I’m not losing weight despite my change in diet and my exercise plan.
That’s my goal- to find (and employ) a new plan by 26 April. (That’s 10 days after Passover- and 10 days after tax season ends.)
Well there’s your blog topic of April 26th Roy, “The Start of my New Healthy Eating Plan.” Then you can do a 3 month update in July! See I got your topics all ready for you! Thanks for stopping by.
This is Awesome, Martha! Love your dedication and the fact that you accomplished what you set out to WITH an added bonus of lowing weight and inches. You are ROARing!!! I’m checking out the almond joy recipe — YUM!
Thanks Jyll, if it’s a challenge of any kind, I stick with it! LOL Let me know how you like hte almond joy bars, they are SO rich but healthy!
Good job, Martha. You look fabulous! A lot of work and dedication. I’ve changed my diet to include ferments since July. I think I eat fairly healthy and been exercising 3 times a week plus walking the dog every day. I’m not getting much weight loss though. Maybe I don’t have any lbs to lose, ha. ha. A few pounds less would be nice.
Thanks Lily, after I was diagnosed, I think it woke me up and I realized if I wanted to be healthy for my grandchildren, I needed to take charge.
I’m so proud of your achievements! keep going you look amazing.
Thank you Amanda The only thing I can’t seem to get into is an exercise routine. I’m thinking and telling myself I have to start!
