X is for Xylophone
X is for Xylophone
While trying to decide on an X word for the A to Z challenge, I thought I might be stumped until I remembered hearing my grandchildren banging on a toy xylophone when they were younger. So that’s how I came to use X is for Xylophone.
A xylophone is a percussion instrument with two rows of wooden bars that are graduated in length to make it sound like the music scale. It is an instrument that is played in an orchestra or band with two small mallets.
If you notice in many children’s dictionary books, the word Xylophone is used since there are not many words that begin with X that children can relate to. I think most every young child has had a toy xylophone at some time or another. Most of the toys ones are small, some are only about a foot or so long and can be pulled around with the attached cord. The bars are also metal on the toy ones.
My grandchildren loved to make music with their toy xylophones as young as a year old. I think they like them because they use colorful bars and it’s a fun toy. This is a toy xylophone that my 16 month old great grandson has, they have gone high tech since his mom was a baby!
When one of my granddaughter’s was too old for the toy xylophone, I found a different style that was made with aluminum bars and it even had a carrying case so she could take it to school. She loved to sit for hours and play tones on her xylophone while her little sister had the brightly colored toy one.
It seems like every blog I have written about for the Alphabet Challenge has somehow brought back wonderful memories.
When I started thinking about the letter X for the A to Z Challenge I really thought I would have problems, but after a little thinking, it was easy!
Grandchildren? Oh my God, You look so amazingly young. I thought you might be in your 30s
LOL, thanks DeeDee. We have 7 grand children from 28 years to 12 years and 3 great grands, with the 4th on the way in October. I tell people I grow old but I don’t grow up because my grand babies keep me young! Thanks for stopping by.
The Xylophone is among my favorite instruments. It was one of the most endearing components of Spyro gyra (one of my favorite jazz groups).
I fear (pun intended) that, given the election process around us, our tots will learn the word xenophobe at a very early age.
I love the sound of the xylophone also Roy. I like how you added your own “X” word and you are so right about xenophobe. Thanks for stopping by.
I don’t think my son ever had a xylophone. Or maybe, I’m just not remembering. Interesting “X” word, though!
Oh my Jeanine, I thought every little one had a toy xylophone that they pulled along on a string. LOL Thanks for visiting, I’m behind reading everyone’s blogs since I’ve been out of town since Wednesday. Have lots to catch up with this weekend!
I remember when my kids had toy xylophones, too. And I also enjoy hearing and seeing the full size xylophone in the orchestra. It’s a lovely sound. 🙂
I think the toy xylophone was a part of most homes with little ones. I too love the full size sound of the ones in the orchestra. Thanks for visiting Barbara.
I learned to play tunes on the xylophone before graduating to keyboards. Great fun for kids!
I think the xylophone even if a toy, is a good way to start youngsters into music. That’s great that you graduated to keyboards! Thanks for stopping by Priscilla.
I remember the ones I had when I was little! 😁
Yes, you have the little color type plus the other one in the blog was yours! I’m saving it for your next life Alexandra.
