Working on Weekends
I decided to write about the suggested topic today for the Ultimate Blog Challenge. Our host, Paul T. mentioned some businesses take the weekened off and today’s topic is to write about why or why not we work on the weekend. So here’s my story about working on weekends.
For many, many years Rich and I owned and operated Mar-C’s Interior Decorating. Saturdays was busy with customers that came from out of town so it was a busy day for us. We retired in 2018….or so we thought! Our retirement was short lived since we still do consultations and fabricate window treatments for some of our past clients.
When our great granddaughter Lia was born in August 2018 I made a Minky blanket for her baby shower. When Alexandra saw how soft and cuddly it was she suggested we start making Minky blankets. So Mama’s Minky’s was born right after Lia was born. We make Minky blankets from baby to adult sizes and added matching pillows and even heart shaped Minky rugs. This is a blog I wrote about My Sewing Business starting from the beginning of my sewing career to our Minkys.
Now fast forward three years…. This past July I saw an offer on Swagbucks, one of my online earning sites. The offer was to sign up for Uber Eats, make one delivery and earn 200,000 Swagbucks.. Swagbucks can be cashed out for cash or gift cards so I opted to take the $200.00! Well after I made the first delivery, Rich and I decided it was a cool part time job and we made it a family affair. Rich drives, I pick up the food from the restaurants and deliver it when Lia goes with us, she is the backseat driver! In October Swagbucks had another similar offer with Door Dash, sign up and earn 100,000 swagbucks which is another $100.00! Part of me did these offers because I love a challenge and this is a blog I wrote about being a Go Getter Who Loves a Challenge and how Uber paid for our new stove and refrigerator.
The cool thing about Ubering and Dashing is you get to pick your own days and hours. We started out a few hours a few days a week but found that Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday are the busiest days. If we have a free few hours, we head out to hit the roads, sometimes it’s in the morning, other times it’s the afternoon or evening. So we are back working on weekends and I love it!
Doing the Dash and Uber Eats together with your husband is such a cool thing! I’m sure it makes it quicker when one drives and the other does pickup and drop off.
It’s fun Angie, especially when Lia is the back seat driver with us!
Your title made me automatically start singing in my head, “Everybodys working for the weekend.” even though I know it was different!
I usually end up working a few hours each day on the weekend. I like it when it is easy going, casual and I get to do what I want at a nice easy pace.
Since we sorta retired, at times everyday seems like a weekend Paul! LOL But I do enjoy our gig work with Lia as the back seat driver!
I like your side hustles for the weekend. I work on blog posts, Etsy products, and my novel.
How neat to be writing a novel Dominique! Someday I plan to write a story for Lia!
Once an entrepreneur and hard worker, always an entrepreneur and hard worker!
Your husband and you sound like the kind of people who can’t just sit on the sofa and eat bonbons. Good on you!
Isn’t it amazing how your actions help and delight other people, in small or more impactful ways?
Love the Minky blankets 💖 They look soft and cuddly indeed!
We definitely can sit around and eat bonbons Tamara! We call some of those that have nothing better to do, the blind peepers. The know all the neighbors business. LOL The Minky blankets are so soft!
Hi Martha and Lia, you make working on the weekends sound like a fun adventure, especially with all the bonuses you earn in those challenges! I guess it’s not work if you love what you do! Sending hugs, Jaime
When we had are interior decorating business for over 50 years, it was hard to call it work because I enjoyed it so much Jaime. Not it’s the same with our delivering gigs, it’s fun especially with Lia as the back seat driver!
Great blog post. 🙂
Thanks Amanda!
