WordPress and Host Gator Part Two
For those who visited and commented on my WordPress and Host Gator post the other day, thank you all. After learning something new the other day, I’m sharing my WordPress and Host Gator Part Two.

I especially want to give a big shout out and thank you to my blogger friend Kandas for sharing with me some information I didn’t know! Be sure to visit Kandas Rodarte blog for some interesting topics!
Customer support from Host Gator was excellent and very patient with me when I was lost in what they were trying to explain. The would send my screen shots of what I was supposed to click on and showed me my files and uploads totals and what I had to get them down to.
Since I had so many blogs about review products way back from 2014, I decided to just delete many of those photos. But my totals weren’t going down. What I didn’t know until customer support showed me, all the deleted files went into trash so it still counted as being there! After I found the trash tab, I clicked on that and my numbers started going down.

So here’s where Kandas came in, she left a comment on my blog telling me about a plugin that magically resizes the uploads! TinyPNG plugin will automatically compress the images and the free version has a 500 photo monthly limit but as soon as I delete more older photos and manually resize others I will be in good shape.
This is what is so great about both the Ultimate Blog Challenge and our blogger friends, they are always willing to help others. As the saying goes, we are never too old to learn and I would have never figured this out without the help from Kandas recommending this plugin.
So I switched my Hatchling to Baby and went from 10GB to 20GB. I was right about 17G and I still had until the 30th of April to delete more. But as the time was ticking away and having a 500 monthly limit on TinyPNG I was worried whether I could get my 17GB down to maybe 15GB. But then that meant I would always be near the 20GB and I would be afraid of going over. So instead of beating my head against the wall I decided to jump up to Business level where I now have 50GB and that should give me a good cushion at least while I’m downsizing all my photos and files.
There is still so much to learn after my few chats with Host Gator customer service but I’m working on everything one step at a time.
THANK YOU AGAIN KANDAS for helping me out on this!
Thank you for that – I’ve been in Baby a long time and now you are encouraging me to check it out!
I’ve been a Baby for almost 10 years Linda, I guess it was time to grow up. LOL I’m so glad Kandas told me about the resizing plugin!
Big shoutout to Kandas for being such a rockstar and sharing that plugin tip. And wow, hats off to you for tackling the tech stuff and navigating all the file clean-up—it’s no small feat, but you handled it like a pro!
OMG I was getting so nervous knowing I was under the wire Barbara, Kandas was a lifesaver. I like to try to figure things out but the tech stuff isn’t that easy at times.
It’s good to have friends who know their way around stuff. Yeah, emptying the trash is key. Glad you got everything resolved now – we need your blog to be in good shape, come July, right?
Yes Kandas saved my sanity Tamara. Now that I have a little cushion with more GB space I can work on deleting some of the old files and be in good shape come July, right? Yes right!
I missed your first post, but since I have WordPress — guess what I’m doing today! You definitely have more media than me, but since I also like to add more than one photo per post most of the time, this will be helpful! And thanks to Kanda too! 🙂
Glad my post helped you to check things on your website Angie. I’m so thankful for Kandas telling me about tinyPNG, it was a lifesaver for sure!
You’re understanding this better than me, Martha. I still haven’t got a clue about plugins and tinyPNG. I shall investigate when I’m not so lazy. Right now my WordPress is working ok. But good for you for doing all that work.
I should have been downsizing my photos for the past 10 years Lily, but I never realized how much I would be blogging and it just got away from me. Now I have until July to finish deleted some old files so I’ll be in good shape.
Good deal! I agree, other bloggers can be so helpful when there’s something you’re not sure how to do. And I’m glad you gave yourself some room to grow, so you won’t have to worry about going over the limit.
Yes Jeanine, we have so many helpful bloggers. I remember how Roy helped me out many times, I sure do miss him. Now that Kandas gave me that plugin type and I have my “cushion” I should be in good shape.
Always good to have friends to help you. 🙂
Yes us bloggers always stick together Amanda!
