Why I Started My Blog
Why I Started My Blog
I’ve had quite a few people ask me why I started my blog and if I have a niche. I’ll answer the second part first, no I don’t have a niche, I just write what pops in my head. For my steady readers, you probably know I love to write about family and food! But I didn’t start my blog for that reason. Back on Christmas Day 2014, I was talking to my oldest grandson about my product and book reviews that I do and how I was thinking about starting a blog to give the product sellers more exposure. So to answer the first part of the question, I started my blog because of my product reviewing, hence the name The Martha Review was born.
I belonged to a few product review groups and they would post a product that needing reviewing and if someone was lucky enough to reply before the products were taken, they were sent the product to keep in exchange for a review. My reviews were posted on my social sites or the store that was selling the item. When I started reviewing, the products were small items like cell phone cases and portable chargers, essential oil diffusers, different kitchen utensils and sunglasses to name a few. I also received pillows, sheets and comforters so I was able to share them with my grandchildren plus a few walking canes that came in very handy for hubby. The average price of an item was usually less than $20.00 but they made great gifts after the review was completed and it was fun to review products for different sellers.
But all this changed after I started my blog, I continued to review the smaller items on my social sites plus I added them to my blog. But by the early part of 2016, just a little over a year from when my blog started, I had sellers contacting me about reviewing their products. The products had a higher value since I started sharing them on my blog, I received a drone, a great set of cooking pans, plus a four tier storage rack and more.

When I started my blog for product reviews, I never thought that sellers would actually find it and contact me asking to review their items. I also never thought that I would add categories and branch off into so many other areas on my blog. I’ve had my blog for 3 1/2 years and while I still review many products, I now enjoy all the other areas that I blog about.
I never knew people were Reviewers but that makes a lot of sense! It looks like it’s been a good gig for you and you’ve gotten to try a lot of cool stuff that you may not have otherwise!
That’s the fun part Jyll, trying products that you may not otherwise purchase. But when I find a product that is great (or that isn’t so great), I love to write about it to let other consumers know and also help the seller. It helps with birthday and Christmas gifts too! Thanks for visiting.
I always wondered what got you started blogging. I myself have a general blog. I share my poetry, short stories, work from home stuff and more.
Yup, that’s how I started Brebda and it grew from there. I love your poetry and short stories. I’ll have to check on your work from home stuff again and see what I can find! Thanks for visiting!
Wow I would love to review products.
I enjoy reviewing Mary but it took a while to get to the point where I am now. I have my blog to thank! Thanks for visiting.
That is an interesting journey, Martha. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Thanks Saskia, I never thought it would grow where sellers were contacting me, but glad it worked out this way!
I loved how honestly you have written about your reason to blog. Its surprising how the universe guides our path.
Yes it is Amrita, I never would have thought my reviewing would have grown so much just from a blog! Thanks for stopping by.
