Who Am I

The topic for day 2 was to tell our readers a little about ourselves. Since yesterday was Wordless Wednesday I had to share my photos so today for day 3, I’m doing day 2 and I’m going to share a little about who am I. Hope this all makes sense! LOL

Who Am I

I was born on March 12, 1949 and had the best parents anyone could ask for. I had an older sister and our family was full of love.

Then about ten years later my mom was rushed to the hospital thinking it was appendicitis. Nope no appendicitis, she brought home our baby sister, TEN years after I had been the “baby” of the family. There went that idea, so Nancy, the cute little baby could do no wrong and she didn’t even have to follow the rules! Of course since Anne was three years older than me, she was the one to MAKE the rules and they said it was because of me why we had rules. That didn’t seem right but with me stuck in the middle I went along with it.

Fast forward to when we had a mini reunion a few years ago and my older sister got us these shirts so we could remember why we have rules. (Remember I told you she makes the rules!) I am a middle child that means that’s the reason we have rules. My older sister makes the rules and my younger one feels rules don’t apply to her even to this day. LOL But on a good note for most of our childhood and even grownup years, we stuck together even through we had a few bumps in the road now and then.

So my life seemed normal through my kid years and high school…….until I met the love of my life when I was 16 years old and get this, we met on a blind date on Christmas Day in 1965 just a few months after he returned from serving in the Army during the Vietnam conflict era. There is a saying that says you can’t fall in love right away, you have to get to know the person and work up to it. Well that didn’t happen with Rich and me, something clicked immediately and we were off to planning our wedding after I graduated from high school in June 1967.

We were married on July 29, 1967 and our love grew stronger and stronger. Our first child, a beautiful daughter was born on Christmas day 1968. (Christmas has always been special to us being the birth of the Lord, meeting on Christmas and now the birth our our first child. Six years later our second daughter was born and that was our family. Fast forward to when the girls grew up and married, they gave us 7 grandchildren and then the grands gave us 11 great grands!

We owned and operated Mar-C’s Interiors from 1967 until we retired in 2018 but kept taking orders if our existing clients called. Designing, decorating and sewing were Rich’s and my life and we loved creating beautiful window treatments and bed and bath ensembles so much that it didn’t even seem like a job.

Another Christmas surprise in 2014 was when my oldest grandson helped me put my blog together on Word Press. That was the time when I was doing product and book reviews and what my blog was mainly for. Before long I started writing more blogs about family, life in general and showing how to be frugal and save money. On January 2016 I found the Ultimate Blog Challenge and the rest is history. I’ve been a fixture on this site since then and love it.

My great granddaughter Lia then joined in the blogging fun when she was a about 8 months old and she too did product reviews when I had baby items to review. This was Lia’s first introduction when she started blogging with me. http://themarthareview.com/lias-likings-the-baby-blogger-introduction/ Slowly she infiltrated my blog and made her presence known with her own category, Lia the Baby Blogger. When Lia turned 3 she told me she wasn’t a baby anymore and we changed her blog category to A Day in Lia’s Shoes.

By now she was well into baking, crafts, and gardening so there was always something she could write about. She has been writing her Friday Story Time by Lia blogs throughout the Ultimate Blog Challenge for three or more years.

I was so happy and blessed with my life, my love and my family from December 25, 1965 until March 31, 2024. It was then, on Easter morning that my world fell apart when Rich had a massive heart attack. I was numb, thinking it was a nightmare but it wasn’t. God called my love of 59 years together home to heaven.

Who am I? At times I feel like an empty shell and I can’t go on but I put on a happy face and say I’m fine. My older daughter, Chris along with her hubby and my grandchildren Alex, Zac and Alli are all within shouting distance and keep tabs on me. I also have such great neighbors that are like family, always here if I need them. I always thought Rich and I would be together forever but God had other plans. I still believe there is a message in his life, meeting on Christmas day, always caring, full of compassion and helping others before himself then being called home on Easter.

I have so many wonderful memories including years worth of silly little love notes that Rich would put on my computer every morning with a rose. They will last forever in my heart until we meet again and I know Rich is watching over and guiding us along life’s path.

So that’s a little about who am I even on days when I’m not sure anymore.
