What Happened Today
Today’s UBC suggested prompt is to write about what happened today in history. I was checking through and found so many sad things that happened. One was an “Incident on Chappaquiddick Island” that happened on July 18, 1969 with Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy. I wrote this blog for the July 2018 UBC.
But today I’m posting about birthdays that happened today!
Dion DiMucci was born today in 1939, he is one of both Rich and my favorite old time singer/songwriter. This is a blog I wrote about Dion back in July 2020. http://themarthareview.com/a-birthday-in-history/
Dion turns 84 years old today and his songs are still so fresh in our minds. One favorite song by Dion is The Wanderer and this picture of Lia when she was a few years old fits perfect with his song.
I found a few other singers birthday born today also.
Martha Reeves from Martha and the Vandellas was born today in 1941. She is a R&B and pop singer, Since it’s so hot in many areas of the country, we’re over 100 degrees as is my blogger friend Kebba is also so I thought Martha’s sound Heatwave would be perfect to listen to!
Switching to country music and bluegrass, today in 1954, Ricky Skaggs was born. Ricky as won numerous country music awards and since bluegrass is one of Lia’s favorite genres (when she’s with us) is bluegrass, she totally agrees. I love this video of when Ricky was seven years old, pickin’ and a grinnin’!
All these great people are still alive as of this post and still singing their memories. Happy Birthday Dion, Martha, Ricky and all the other great people born today!
I love it when you do these memory posts! And I am sure I have “sung” The Wanderer to you in the past, so I won’t do it this time. OTOH, we really are “having a Heatwave,” so there you go. 🙂 Love the stair picture of Lia!!
The pictures I added just seemed to be fitting for these singers birthdays Jeanine. That was Lia’s last year’s birthday, mommmy came up with the idea of stacking her gifts on the stairs. Cute idea!
I enjoyed reading this and watching the videos. Lia is cute in these photos, as always. 🙂
Thanks Danwil, Dion is both hubby’s and my favorite and the picture of Lia “wandering” was the perfect fit.
Martha, I actually remember this music somewhat! I really enjoyed listening to the videos. Ricky Skaggs was so serious as a small child– only once looked at his frets to check his finger positions– delivered a flawless performance. And now I read he has been married since 1981, so he must have married the right one. Playing at least 5 instruments, what a musical genius!
I loved Ricky’s early video too Kebba, so much talent at an early age and he stuck with it!
Well Martha, now you have ‘The Wanderer’ stuck in my head LOL Let’s all do the stroll and wish those great artists a very happy birthday.
It get’s stuck in my too Angel! I love this era of music.
I don’t know any of the artists, but happy birthday to them anyway! I always enjoy some happy Lia pictures 🙂 The one on the stairs with the gift bags is adorable!
That’s because you are just a “youngster” Tamara! LOL Mommy stacked all Lia’s gift for last year bday on the stairs, she’s so great at coming up with cool ideas. And it was the perfect picture to wish the singers a happy birthday.
