Vegetable Garden Growing

It’s so exciting to watch our small raised bed vegetable garden growing! We started planting on April 9th, just one month ago and we’ve already been picking lettuce for a week! This is the beginning of our garden if you missed it:

Hubby waters the garden early morning before the sun hits it and then again in the evening and we don’t use any pesticides. All the plants are looking great, we have blossoms on the summer squash, zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes and feelers are on the cucumbers!

Our leaf lettuce is growing by leaps and bounds! My hubby can live on lettuce alone and I pick a fresh bowl everyday! I’ve been taking some over to our little neighbor lady and she was so excited to have fresh lettuce for lunch.

The other day when our great granddaughter was visiting and she helped me pick Papa’s lettuce. I took her socks off and she had such a great time getting her toes in the dirt!

What fun it was to have Lia help in the garden with me! After washing the dirt off her cute little toes, she served Papa a delicious salad!

This is what the vegetable plants look like today, only one month from planting! It’s exciting to see the little squash and tomatoes appear and watch how they grow daily!

My Facebook friend from Texas sent me some Okra seeds and I’m excited to see how well they grow. I’ve never grown Okra, let alone eaten it! I didn’t realize the leaves and seeds can also be eaten. Did you know that one of the varieties is from the gourd family? If left to grow, it will be a Luffa sponge! I’ll be sure to keep you updated on this!

This is a time lapse of our vegetable garden. Starting on April 9th when we begin planting, April 14th we added a few more plants, April 29th when I wrote my 3 week blog update and the bottom one is today May 9th. I am so happy with the one month results so far!

Hopefully we will yield a good amount of squash, peppers and eggplant so I can freeze them and have fresh, frozen vegetables throughout the winter. Stay tuned for the next vegetable garden growing update!

Wow doing great. How she finds the time to get er all done I have not a clue

  2. You almost made me wonder why I haven’t planted one. Oh, yeah. The squirrels, the cats, the other animals that would scavenge my haul.
I love the looks of yours, though!

Shhhh, don’t say that too loud Rou, we have them here too but luckily they listen when I tell them to leave the vegetables alone and go for the bird seed! LOL Nothing better than going out to pick fresh lettuce for dinner! Thanks for stopping by the check out our garden, next time you can pull a few weeds!

I’m envious, Martha. We’re still waiting to plant. A cool dry spring. We usually don’t plant till after the long weekend of May 21 before it is safe. Sometimes it still snows.

I remember the late spring snow when we lived in upstate NY Lily! We have to start early because once it gets too hot, the garden is done. Looking forward to seeing your garden!

You certainly have a green thumb … we got started a little later than you and hoping the bunnies that frequent our garden don’t get to the vegetables before we do – right now though it is only the flowers we see

    • Martha says:

Ah, the bunnies! We have bunnies, squirrels and birds but so far they stay away from the vegetables. The only problem we’ve had are the big green worms grabbing our tomatoes before we do! Thanks for stopping by our garden Vidya.
