Under the Knife
Day three of the UBC will be short and sweet. Well I’m not sure how sweet it will be since while you’re reading this I may still be under the knife!
I have been having stomach issues for years, I’ve had a camera put down me insides, all types of tests and scans and everything came back as silent reflux or GERD. So I took the diagnosis and changed my eating habits, ate small meals and slower to try to relieve the bloat that would last for hours after a meal.
Well last month at our six month check up our primary care doctor asked if it was any better. I told him no so he sent me for an MRI with contrast (from the suggestion of my dear, sweet hubby) and it was then that I found out I have gallstones and gallbladder sludge. I figured it’s like a car engine when the oil gets old and thick, it doesn’t drain out too good. LOL
So today is the day that I have out patient surgery to remove my gallbladder. The surgeon tells me I can’t do any lifting more that a bag of sugar for four to six weeks, we’ll see how that goes! But I’ll have plenty of time to catch up on blogging.
While I’m recuperating, I’ll be reading up on what changes in my diet I need to follow. I don’t eat much greasy foods and love vegetables so hopefully I’ll be good to go. If anyone has had their gallbladder removed, I’d love some suggestions as to what foods I should or shouldn’t eat.
I’ll be back tomorrow and hopefully will be able to keep up with reading and commenting on other blogs. I may be a day behind but as usual I will get to you all!!
Dear Martha, I am keeping my fingers crossed for you so the procedure goes well, and the recovery will be quick. I mean a bag of sugar? We all know the cake you’re about to put into the oven is probably heavier, so how is that supposed to work?
Kidding aside.
My coworker, who loves meat and other fatty food, had his gallbladder removed probably 25 years ago. He does NOT eat veggies, but he seems to do fine.
Wait, I can’t pull my cake out of the oven, I never thought about that Tamara! I still have my sense of humor even though my pain. Surgery went well, recovery is another story I’ll be posting about. LOL I’m sore but my sweet hubby is waiting on me hand and foot.
Sorry to hear about your gallbladder issue, but it sounds like it’s now taken care of. Get well soon. BTW, nice knives, and they look sharp too!
thanks Danwil, yes my gallbladder is a thing of the past. I love my knives, I got them a few years ago as a review item and they as so sharp!
I hope and pray all goes well today, Martha. I know your diet has to change post-gall bladder, but I have no knowledge other than the grease you mentioned. I do think long term; you have a great chance of feeling much better. Everyone I know who has had this surgery is happy not to have the ongoing issues you talked about. Take care, and don’t lift! It is very important. As someone who has had 2 major surgeries in the past 15 months and is about to undergo another, I have learned. Don’t lift! Take the time you need to heal, pamper yourself! You have earned it!
Thanks Cindy, yes everyone keeps saying the don’t life order is the most important. I’m following directions and Rich is taking great care of me. Haven’t fingured out my eating habits yet, so far I’m on apple sauce, crackers and toast.
Wishing you well, Martha!!
Thanks Kimbrly, I’m listing to orders.
Outpatient surgery…
May your gallbladder issues be sliced out of your life.
That it was Roy!
Oh Martha ,you take care and just rest.I will be back tomorrow to check.Get better soon
Thanks Amrita, I love to sleep when I’m put under!
Oh my goodness!! I hope you will soon be feeling better. I can’t believe it took so long to figure out what was wrong. And I also can’t believe that having your gallbladder out is now an outpatient procedure! I had mine out 34 years ago and was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks due to complications.
Seems like everything is outpatient now Jeanine, Get ‘um in and get ‘um out! LOL Doing better day by day, Rich is a great nurse.
I hope you have a speedy recovery – but be kind to yourself. Let Lia help you out a little – I’m sure she will! I hope this is does the trick and you start feeling a lot better!
Thanks Elisa, Lai made my day when her and Alex stopped over checking up on me! I’m not doing much but I’ll be back to normal soon. Now to figure out what I can and can’t eat.
Martha, I’m praying for and visualizing your smoothest, most perfect healing experience! May this procedure completley cure your abdominal discomforts. <3
Thanks Kebba. It’s strange that over the past 6-8 years they kept saying acid reflux, never even gave my gallbladder a thought! Just working on what I can and can’t eat now.
