Today is National Peace Rose Day
Today is National Peace Rose Day, French horticulturist Francis Meilland was the developer of the Peace rose back in 1935 and 1939. When the German invasion started, Francis sent cuttings to his friends in Italy, Turkey, Germany, and the United States to protect the new rose he grew. Each country named the rose something different and the United States named it Peace as World War 2 came to a close and the national flower for the United States is the rose. So that’s how the Peace Rose get it’s name.

These are two of our roses, I’m not sure if they are true Peace roses but the coloring is similar. The Peace rose has a light yellow to cream-colored center with pale pink petals around the edges. It is a beautiful hybrid tea rose that is hardy and highly resistant to disease. I love taking pictures of roses with dew drops on them.

While I am on the subject of roses, to me all roses bring peace with their delicate beauty. I have one unique rose bush where the colors change at times. The bush usually has dark red roses but every so often pink ones will grow on the same bush. I haven’t seen the double colors in a few years but when I looked at the beautiful dark red rose last Thursday I noticed some other buds coming out and they were a very pale pink. I watched them over the weekend and Monday they opened into gorgeous pink roses loaded with tiny buds around each large rose.

These are the beautiful pink roses that share the red rose bush. Look at all the buds, they definitely are a sign on peace to me.
