Today is National Dress Up Your Pet Day!
I like to check the National Calendar days and when I saw today is Dress Up Your Pet Day, it brought back memories.
Our toy poodle joined our family in 2002 when he was about 4 months old. At that time our granddaughter was 6 years old and she always called Marty “her puppy.”
She would love to dress him up in a little shirt and top hat and snuggle with Marty while reading him a book. Funny thing is, Marty looked like he was actually listening to Alexandra reading!
Marty was smart, he could be curled up sleeping but as soon as he heard Alex coming to the door, he would jump up and wait for her to come in.
Alexandra’s little sister thought Marty was her’s too. She would “play house” with Marty, making him a bed and covering him up for a good night’s sleep. Not sure what Marty thought about all this but he took it all in stride.
The family had moved to Indiana and we took Marty up for Trinity’s 10th birthday. She was so happy to see “her puppy”.
As Marty started aging, he lost his fluffy white fur and his get up and go but Alexandra still loved her puppy and he loved his bath time.
Marty was 16 years old and getting tired. One afternoon in 2018, he closed his eyes and entered his eternal sleep. I’m so glad that Alexandra and Trinity had a lifetime of fun and happiness with Marty, so many memories of our little fluffy toy poodle who started out getting dressed up and Alexandra reading him books.
What a heart warming post full with memorable photos! What a life Marty had and you all enjoyed! Pets are the best! When they are gone they are missed! Sweet post Martha!
Thanks Anne, Marty was such a sweet little guy. It was so fun having him grow up with the grands. He’s waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge.
I am so glad no one in my family decided to torment our pets with such a concept. Pets don’t need clothes. If they did, they’d invent them, just like we did.
Well have you seen all the pet clothes they have in stores now? Back in Marty’s days he was dressed in doll clothes. LOL Thanks for visiting Roy.

What a sweet blog post. I can relate. I used to read books to my dog too! She peacefully passed away in 2015 at the age of 16. She is missed.
We share so many alike memories Amanda! So sorry about your pup but they are all running through the clouds being young again.
